Lead Die Setter – AutomaticsSMS Staffing is hiring immediately for Lead Die Setter in Waukegan, IL! Job Title: Lead Die Setter – Automatics Schedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (40+ hours/week) Pay Rate: Starting at $23.00/hour Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM Position OverviewWe are currently seeking a Lead Die Setter – Automatics to join our team. This role is responsible for coordinating the setup of automatic punch press dies in a fast-paced metal stamping environment, ensuring all presses are running efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.Key Responsibilities for Lead Die Setter Role:Coordinate and prioritize work for automatic die setters and machine operatorsSet up and adjust dies for productionInspect parts and raw materials using measuring tools and blueprintsMonitor press operations, feeders, and die functions for performance and malfunctionsTrain and guide machine operators and material handlers on safe and efficient operationsMove dies and materials with proper documentationEnsure safe handling, storage, and transfer of materials, scrap, and containersMaintain a clean and safe work environmentFollow all OSHA and company safety regulations, including PPE requirementsReport issues or concerns to supervisors promptlyPerform additional duties as assignedQualifications & Requirements for Lead Die Setter Role:With previous experience in setting dies (including blow-offs and oilers)Strong ability to read and interpret blueprintsExperience with punch press machines (35–300 ton), including brands such as Bliss and SutherlandKnowledge of metal stamping processes (steel, aluminum, etc.)Familiarity with lockout/tagout proceduresExperience with inspection processes and measuring toolsAbility to operate die handling and material handling equipmentWillingness to obtain a forklift licenseTools Required:Basic measuring and inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, protractor, etc.)Hand tools (wrenches, ratchet/socket set, etc.)Rolling tool cart and other standard equipmentJoin the SMS team!
