Job description

Grounds Maintenance SupervisorSupervise daily activities of grounds maintenance operation to ensure district grounds are safe, neat, and attractive.Valid Texas driver's licenseKnowledge of gardening and landscapeAbility to read and interpret blueprints and landscape plansAbility to operate heavy equipment, including backhoe and trencherAbility to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand toolsAbility to direct and supervise personnel and coordinate grounds operationsAcceptable driving recordAbility to follow written and verbal instructions in EnglishAbility to communicate with others in EnglishFive years experience in gardening and landscape maintenanceTwo years supervisory experienceAssign all grounds work and oversee completionAdvise Director of Facilities and Construction if contract labor is neededAssign priority to work orders and process them, including tracking of labor and material useEstimate the cost and time required for special projects and order materialsInterpret blueprints, plans, and sketches to carry out landscape designsEstablish care and watering schedules, including spraying, fertilizing, pruning, etc.Operate and maintain equipment used for grounds operations, including backhoe, trencher, tractor, riding and power mowers, etc.Inspect grounds and facilities and initiate needed repairs, including the building and repair of fences and gatesMonitor sprinkler systems and make arrangements for repairs as neededInstruct assigned personnel on proper and safe use of tools and equipmentOperate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety proceduresFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.Ensure that vehicles, equipment, and tools are in safe operating conditionInspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiencyCorrect unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediatelyCoordinate the storage and use of all grounds equipment, tools, and suppliesPrepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance and repair procedures for grounds equipment and toolsOrder equipment and supplies and maintain accurate recordsRecommend replacement of existing equipmentConduct annual inventory of physical equipment and suppliesAssist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluation of grounds employeesAssist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilitiesInspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairsDetect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipmentComplete repairs as requested on work orders or by Director of Facilities and ConstructionAssist with mowing and detailing of district groundsAssist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as neededHang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as requiredInstall door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screensInstall ceiling and flooring materialsOperate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout districtWork irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as neededPerform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitorsDemonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressuresDemonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situationsDemonstrates respect, courteous to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willinglyDemonstrates principles of the Manor ISD People Experience.Supervise work of groundskeepers.Heavy equipment, including backhoe, trencher, and grader blade; tractor and mower; riding and power mower; gas-powered weed trimmer; blower; edger; sprayer; striping machine; garden and hand tools; aerator; ladders; forklift; elevated lift equipment; light truck or van.The working conditions described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
