Lead Java Developer

Location : Newark, NJ (Hybrid – 3 days onsite/week)

Practice Area : Financial Services

The Opportunity

Strategio’s Financial Services Practice is growing, and we’re looking for a Lead Java Developer to help build the future of enterprise financial platforms.

In this hybrid role based in Newark, NJ, you’ll join a high-impact team delivering platform solutions for a Fortune 500 financial institution. This role is ideal for a hands‑on leader who thrives in solving complex backend challenges with modern cloud‑native technologies.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Java Developer to join a high‑impact product team. This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys building modern API platforms, mentoring other engineers, and shaping strategic architecture decisions that scale across complex systems.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and deliver elegant, cloud‑native solutions to solve complex backend and platform problems.

Lead the design and implementation of scalable APIs using Java and/or C#, Spring Boot or .NET Core, and cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Champion engineering best practices, including Agile delivery, DevOps, and CI/CD.

Partner closely with product owners, scrum masters, and peer tech leads to deliver cohesive platform experiences.

Advocate for technical excellence across the SDLC, from planning and architecture to testing and deployment.

Mentor junior and senior engineers, promoting growth, knowledge sharing, and a high‑performing culture.

Contribute to platform roadmaps, driving innovation with ideas, experimentation, and user‑centric design.

Required Skills

Proven success leading software teams to deliver impactful solutions in fast‑paced environments.

Deep expertise in object‑oriented design and microservices architecture.

Hands‑on proficiency with Java and/or C#, Spring Boot / .NET Core, RESTful APIs, and cloud‑native services.

Strong experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).

Familiarity with DevOps tooling, Agile development, and testing best practices.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills—you know how to make tech talk business and vice versa.

Comfort operating in ambiguity and finding clarity through experimentation and systems thinking.

Nice‑to‑Haves

Experience with graph databases or knowledge graph architectures.

Exposure to agentic design patterns (e.g., LangChain, RAG, or orchestration layers).

Prior background in the insurance or financial services industry.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $125,000 to $220,000 per year

Health & Wellness: Robust Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans.

Retirement: 401(k) plan to help you secure your financial future.

At Strategio, we invest in our people. In addition to competitive compensation and a high‑growth environment, we offer a benefits package including robust healthcare, retirement savings, and a culture of innovation.
