nJob Summary:
nOur Lead Lifeguard is r esponsible to ensure the safety of swimmers at Chilson Recreation Center Pool. Responsible for all aspects of aquatics safety and ensuring operations are adhered to in the absence of supervisory personnel. The hiring range for this position is $17.50 - $19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
nMust be at least 17 years of age at time of hire.
nThis part-time, non-benefitted position must be available to work some evenings, weekend and holiday hours and early mornings.
nAll offers are conditional upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check and pre-employment drug screen.

nEssential Functions:
nnnEnhances the Recreation Department image and ensures a quality visit to aquatics area.
n
nnEnsures a safe environment by communicating with and taking direction from aquatics supervisory personnel related to lifeguard rotations, ratios, completion of daily operational and cleaning duties, checking safety equipment, water testing and ensuring proper chemistry balance and clarity.
n
nnResponsible for all aspects of opening and closing procedures.
n
nnGuards all swim areas and enforces rules and safety regulations.
n
nnMonitors weather conditions and works with supervisory personnel concerning unsafe conditions.
n
nnCompletes required daily paperwork.
n
nnAssists with comprehensive swim lesson programs, if applicable.
n
nnEffectively responds to emergency situations and performs lifesaving procedures.
n
nnEstablishes and maintains a good public relations image with guests through communications, positive interactions and consistent enforcement of all policies and procedures.
n
nnDisseminates and promotes Parks and Recreation program information and directs guests to proper locations.
n
nnResolves administrative concerns by applying appropriate policies, procedures and interactions with staff and guests.
n
n nOther Job Functions:
nnnMay be required to cross-train in other areas.
n
nnAttends regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service trainings.
n
nnMay be required to oversee facility when supervisory personnel are absent.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.
n
n nExperience:
nnn1 year lifeguarding experience required.
n
nn1 year customer service-related experience required.
n
nnMust be 17 years of age at the time of hire.
n
n nCertifications:
nnCurrent Lifeguard Certification, CPR, AED and First Aid certification required.
n nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
nnnMust possess general working knowledge of pool and aquatics area operations.
n
nnMust have general knowledge of swim lesson programming and pool maintenance.
n
nnMust recognize, react quickly and correctly in emergency situations and will be required to perform the necessary lifesaving procedures.
n
nnMust make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution, and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful and/or disciplinary situations.
n
nnMust possess knowledge of all rules and regulations pertaining to water safety and be able to communicate with staff and guests alike in a friendly, positive, and professional manner.
n
nnProven skills in lifeguarding, and first aid/lifesaving procedures necessary.
n
n nPhysical Demands and Working Conditions:
nnnLight to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
n
nnOccasional m oderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
n
nnMinimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
n
nnStrenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
n
n nWorking Environment:
nnnFrequent e xposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

nnOccasional e xposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
n
nnExposure to routine office noise and equipment.
n
nnExposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.

nnExposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.

nnExposure to hazardous conditions that may lead to workplace injury such as working in heights, exposure to fly ash and/or energized electrical equipment.
