Job description

Lead WelderRate of Pay and Job Description: This position is a Level 1 on the Licensed Trade hourly rate schedule. Pay is determined by years of applicable, paid experience, $23.96-$29.46/hr. General Benefit Information - Positions (or a combination of two positions) working more than 20 hours per week are considered full-time and will qualify for full benefits including health insurance, supplemental insurance options, medical and dependent flex spending accounts, and paid, accumulated sick leave. Eligible for 11-17 paid holidays depending on number of months on your regular schedule Eligible for a free DRC membership for the employee A $20,000 or $10,000 life insurance policy paid for by the district depending on full or part-time status Positions working 12 months out of the year also accumulate paid vacation leave See more information about district benefits through the Payroll and Benefits webpageJob DescriptionPurpose: To perform various welding and related tasks such as gas welding, wire feed welding, ARC welding, aluminum welding, cutting, and grinding.Responsible to: Maintenance SupervisorSalary: Licensed Trade Hourly Rate Schedule, Level 1Classification of Employment: Non-ExemptDate: July 2019Qualifications1. Must possess knowledge and skills regarding all types of welding and hold appropriate certifications.2. Valid Kansas driver's license.Essential Functions1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities a. Maintain school buildings in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. b. Fabricate equipment by cutting, burning and welding various metals. c. Repair equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment. d. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district. e. Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded. Set up, assembles, and tack-weld parts. f. Build up worn or defective surfaces. g. Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape. h. Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly. i. May be assigned to dismantle or cut up obsolete machinery, setting aside parts for scrap dealer. j. Require skills in manufacturing and dismantling as well as repair work. k. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditionsa. Must be able to work with precision and control where damage could be considerable. b. Requires considerable lifting, stooping, bending. c. Requires climbing and balancing. d. Exposure to gases and fumes due to welding. e. Requires the use of protective equipment and clothing. f. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. g. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.General Responsibilities1. Fabricate, manufacture and dismantle job-related materials.2. Read and understand general blue prints.3. Conduct ongoing maintenance on tools and equipment.4. Coordinate work orders to personnel assigned to work in weld shop, and set a good example by creating a safe work environment.5. Give accurate and complete information on maintenance work orders.6. Assist in snow removal from school district building walkways, entrances and parking areas.7. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.8. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.9. Operate district equipment including vehicles in order to perform assigned tasks.10. Other duties assigned by the maintenance supervisor, which are consistent with the general requirements of the position.
