nPay: The salary for this position is $16.50 hourly. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
nnnJob Summary: The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies. Create a safe, enjoyable and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and satisfaction in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures. The Lifeguard will oversee multiple activities including but not limited to open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming.

nnEssential Functions:
n
n nnnMaintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately.
n
nnPerform first aid when necessary and complete appropriate incident/accident reports.
n
nnKnow, understand, and consistently communicate policies and guidelines for the pool, body of water and whirlpool.
n
nnAttend monthly in-service trainings.
n
n nnnRelationships: This position reports to the Aquatics Director/Aquatics Supervisor who reports to the Branch Community Leadership. The incumbent interacts regularly with their supervisor, staff, volunteers, and participants.
n
nnQualifications: Required
n
n nnnMinimum age of 15.
n
nnCurrent nationally accredited lifeguard certification (applicable for body of water being guarded).
n
nnCurrent BLS/CPR + AED for the Professional Rescuer annually and First Aid certifications.
n
nnCertification required within 45 days of hire: Oxygen Administration (cannot guard until certification is complete).
n
nnPhysically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
n
nnDetect noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
n
nnSee and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
n
nnDemonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
n
nnDemonstrated ability to recognize, respond and remedy unsafe situations.
n
nnAbility to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
n
nnAbility to work with diverse populations and ages.
n
nnDedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA.
n
n nnWork Conditions:
n nnnAbility to pass lifeguard water test.
n
nnMust be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher.
n
nnMust be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
n
nnAbility to perceive, identify and respond to signs of distress.
n
nnAbility to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.
n
nnObserve all areas of the pool with clear vision.
n
nnPerform all needed rescues and survival skills.
n
nnBe able to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue, including swimming quickly, supporting adult body weight while swimming as far as 50 feet, and removing adult body weight from the pool.
n
nnCommunicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
n
nnAbility to concentrate for long periods of time.
n
