Job description
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work – May be full time or part time, depending on the needs of the program and the hours needed.
nQualifications – HS diploma or GED; experience working with the intellectually and developmentally disabled preferred.
nRelevant Certifications- Valid/acceptable NYS driver’s license; Lifeguard Certification and First Aid and CPR Certification
nWork Authorization/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States.
nSummary/Objective –
nnnThe lifeguard has the primary responsibility of providing direct supervision and assisting participating staff and individuals during pool programming.
n
nnThe person is required to spend the majority of his/her time in direct contact with pool participants.
n
nnSupport the goals, objectives, and philosophy of the agency.
n
nnWill support the Agency’s values by working with measurable signs of PRIDE.
n
n nEssential Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
nnnProvide direct supervision of the pool area to monitor and ensure individual safety
n
nnWill maintain daily participant attendance sheet.
n
nnWill complete accident/incident reports.
n
nnWill ensure daily documentation of all individual’s goals.
n
nnWill maintain weekly contact with Program Director to report progress and ensure open lines of communication.
n
nnWill monitor pool equipment on a daily basis and report repair needs to Program Director.
n
nnWill be responsible for infection control in the locker rooms.
n
nnWill launder suits/towels as needed.
n
nnWhen pool is closed for any reason, Lifeguard will assume responsibilities/duties assigned by Program Director. These duties include: assisting with community integration opportunities, daily recreational activities, special activities, behavior management, and/or general classroom supervision, as need.

nnOther duties as assigned by the director or designee.

nPhysical Demands - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 30 pounds. Will be required to get in the pool and interact with those in the pool.
