Job description
LifeguardThe Lifeguard is responsible for implementing all water safety policies and procedures. Supervises members and guests in and around the swimming pool.Essential Functions:Supervise and observe swimmers at all times to ensure their safetyRespond to emergency situations in accordance with established methods and proceduresAdminister First Aid, and CPR as necessaryEnforce Club rules and regulations regarding pool activitiesMaintain aquatic safety equipment by inspecting and reporting repairs needed to buoys, floats, ropes, or other equipment installed or used as safety measures.Perform maintenance duties in keeping the pool, deck, and other areas clean, safe, and attractiveAssist and lead aquatic instruction and recreational activities including swimming lessons and swim teamAdhere to all club rules and regulations regarding dressing and uniformsAssist with all opening and closing of the pool facilityPerform and record the Chlorine level and PH count on the daily sheet as neededParticipate in all In-service training conducted at the pool to ensure retainment of all skills needed for employmentCompetencies:Adequate knowledge of and training in pool chemistry, rescue and surveillance techniques, CPR/AED, and blood-borne pathogensParticipates in pool safety programs and risk managementEmploys only those methods and teaching techniques outlined and approved by the American Red CrossKnowledge of and ability to perform the required role in emergency situationsRequirements Educations/Experience:Some High School courses requiredAbility to swim laps and dive to the bottom of the poolMust have a current Red Cross Lifeguard CertificateAmerican Red Cross Basic First Aid required training on AED units and possession of a current Red Cross CPR cardPhysical Demands and Work Environment: Work Conditions: Conditions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully and safely. Ability to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents. Physical: The employee is frequently required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, reach with hands and arms, stoop, stretch, twist, climb stairs, balance, crouch, bend, or kneel. The employee must push, pull, and lift, up to 50 pounds in continuous repetitive motions. Physical exertion over long periods of time. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. Hearing: The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., conversation with members, medical codes, or alarms).
