Job description
JCC LifeguardThe JCC lifeguard monitors pool activities and ensures the safety of swimmers. This role possesses thorough knowledge of lifesaving requirements and techniques, strong swimming skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This full-time position is required to be available for opening shifts starting at 6:00 am.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEnsure the safety of all swimmers and pool areas by exemplifying rescue-ready behavior at all timesSupervise and monitor all pool activitiesExhibit professional behavior at all times while on dutyBe fully engaged in monitoring pool area while on duty (constant scanning of designated areas of water)Communicate effectively with other guards, swimmers, and others in the pool areasPerform maintenance of the pool and entire pool area (including maintaining equipment, cleaning/straightening pool deck, monitoring water chemistry, and maintaining logs)Occasionally perform deep cleaning responsibilities such as brushing and vacuuming the pool bottom and scrubbing the pool deck.Attend and actively participate in scheduled in-service (paid) training sessionsAdhere to direction of supervisor on dutyOther duties as assignedQualificationsEducation/ExperienceHigh school diploma (preferred)Current American Red Cross lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer (required)Must be at least 18 years of ageKnowledge/Skills/ExperienceStrong swimming skillsKnowledge of lifesaving equipment and lifesaving techniquesAbility to see and hear members, alert staff, and communicate effectivelyOutstanding communication and interpersonal skillsInterpersonal, Customer Service & Communication SkillsRequires ability to effectively communicate JCC mission to staff, members, vendors, and volunteersRequires high-level skills in customer service/member careExemplifies personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the JCC's missionEquipment UsedRescue tubesBackboardAEDOxygenFirst Aid suppliesWater test kitWork EnvironmentThis position must be able to climb in and out of all guard chairs, stand and sit for long periods of time, and get in and out of the pool as needed. Extended exposure to sunlight and outdoor elements as well as warm and humid indoor environment is expected. Position works independently and without supervision for long periods of time. Handling and exposure to chlorine and other pool chemicals required.
