Lifeguard (Multiple Positions)Salary: $15.00/hourReports to: Pool ManagerHours: 8am- 3pm, As neededBuilding: Scranton High School/West Scranton Intermediate SchoolJob Category: LifeguardPrimary PurposeTo ensure the safety of all visitors to the aquatic facility and maintain orderliness.Duties And ResponsibilitiesMaintains active surveillance of the pool areaMonitoring designated areas to recognize signs of dangerResponds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with district policies, procedures; completes related reports as requiredPerforms all lifeguard duties, including ability to lift people out of pool, perform CPR/first aid, scan pool to ensure safety of participantsExplaining and enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of patrons as requested by supervising teacherWarn swimmers regarding unsafe situationsParticipation of in-service training as required by the school and districtAsses situations swiftly and make judicious decisions regarding the safety of swimmersRequirementsMust be 18 years of age or olderCompletion of American Red Cross lifeguard trainingFirst Aid and CPR/Pro certificationProficient communication skills, both verbal and writtenProficient in interacting with people of various ages from diverse backgroundsAvailable to work different shiftsAbility to maintain certification level physical and mental readinessAdditional Skills, Knowledge, And AttitudeAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to exercise sound judgmentPhysical DemandsAbility to reach above and below the waistAbility to use fingers to pick up, feel, and grasp objectsPhysically perform all skills required of a lifeguardHear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibilityAbility to lift and carry supplies and paper weighing at least than 50 lbsPerform a Lifeguard Skills test during the interview process; includes endurance, a timed event, and demonstration of CPR and lifeguard rescue skillsSee and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibilitySensory AbilityVisual AcuityAuditory Acuity
