Lifeguard- Aquatics DivisionInspire, Create, PLAY … and get paid!PAY: $15.85 per hourWhat We're Looking ForChapel Hill Aquatics is looking for individuals who want to serve the community, and work together as a team to build a workplace where people thrive. We value individuals who are responsible, professional, and safety conscious and are looking to grow as individuals and part of a team.This position is open until filled and is subject to close without notice.What You'll Do At WorkMonitor activities in swimming areas to enforce rules, prevent accidents, and provide assistance to patrons.Perform lifesaving rescues, first aid, and CPR as necessary.Inspect the pool, pool area, equipment, and supplies and report problems.Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness for the pool facilities and surrounding areas.Provide outstanding customer service to a diverse group of individuals.Attend monthly in-service trainings and maintain swimming fitness.Other related tasks as assigned.Where You'll WorkThe work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor pool facility.Physical DemandsThe work requires intermittent sitting, standing or stooping and the ability to maintain focus for up to 60 minutes at a time. The employee uses equipment that requires a high degree of dexterity and medium strength. The employee is required to lift a minimum of 10 pounds regularly.What You'll Take Away from Your Experience Working as a LifeguardDevelop work ethic, empathy, patience, and awareness.Interpersonal and Leadership skills.Improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills.An American Red Cross Lifeguard with CPR/AED/First Aid certification.Access to Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation facilities: Chapel Hill Community Center, Northside Gym, and the Homestead Aquatics Centers; includes Basketball, Volleyball, Rock Climbing, and Swimming during drop-in hours.Memories and friendships that will last a lifetime!Minimum QualificationsYou Should Apply if You (minimum requirements) Are at least 15 years of age or older. An equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job Knowledge Of:First Aid and CPRBasic Lifesaving SkillsProper usage of emergency water safety equipment such as backboards and rescue tubesBasic pool chemicals and water testing proceduresRelevant town codes and department rules and regulationsAbility to:Swim 300 yards, tread water for 2 minutes without use of arms, and retrieve brick from 9' depthComplete fitness swim every two weeksAttend monthly in-service trainings, be rescue ready and stay current with all certificationsRead, write and perform mathematical calculationsRead, write, speak and understand EnglishSupervisory ResponsibilitiesWith advanced experience, position may require direction of other temporary employees.Licenses/CertificationsCurrent certification in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid by the American Red Cross.
