Lift Station Maintenance Technician - Skilled Trades Worker II
Sarasota County Government is seeking a Lift Station Maintenance Technician - Skilled Trades Worker II. The person in this role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all electrical and mechanical equipment and appurtenances at all Public Utilities facilities. Must be fully proficient in the duties of a Skilled Trades Worker 1 and demonstrate the ability to construct and repair electrical panels, fabricate mechanical repairs, and have basic knowledge of instrumentation, telemetry, communication systems and computers.
Utility Operations
Install, replace, repair, and modify mechanical and electrical equipment located on and within Public Utilities facilities, including, but not limited to, pumps valves, regulators, actuators, control panels, communication systems, motor controls, electronic filtering and switching systems.
Perform lift station maintenance that may include mowing, trimming of shrubbery, weed-eating, pressure washing, fence repairs and painting.
Document and maintain work order and safety records in written and in electronic format.
Respond to emergency situations as needed.
Equipment Operations
Proficient in the operation of and electric multimeter, voltmeter, and megohmmeter, battery operator tools, hand tools, chainsaws and other gas-powered equipment.
Operate vacuum truck to evacuate wet wells and other lift station maintenance activities.
Proficient in the operation of a 1.5-ton crane truck.
Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles.
General Duties
Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and County safety requirements, including lock-out/tag-out and confined space entry as well as general industry safety rules.
Read and follow color codes, wiring diagrams and schematics, blueprints, plans and written instructions and work under limited supervision.
This position will be in Lift Station Maintenance and may be stationed and deployed anywhere in the County.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. *On-Call Required.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience in applicable trades which include work in the water / wastewater collection field and or experience performing pump, valve or hydraulic system repair and maintenance including electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
Class "A" CDL with air brake endorsement required within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Class "C" wastewater collection system certification. Ability to obtain a Class "B" wastewater collection system certification within two (2) years.
Possession of a valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
Electrician license preferred.
Job Competencies: Knowledge of state-of-the art technology in mechanical equipment, maintenance and test equipment, equipment troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic controls and pumps, building construction trades, methods, codes, practices, tools and equipment. Ability to read and follow color codes, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, plans and written instructions and work under limited supervision. Course in pump or motor repair, control panel repair, hydraulics, fluid mechanics, welding, communications and / or telemetry. Proficient in the operation of electric multi-meter, voltmeter, and megohmmeter. Proficient in the operation of a 1.5-ton crane truck.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
About Everything Else
Pay: $20.71 (Step 4) - $22.62 (Step 7). Candidates with exceptional experience, knowledge, and skills will be compensated accordingly.
