nOverview

nPPL Electric Utilities is hiring into our Lineworker Apprenticeship Program. This is a 4-year paid apprenticeship.

nThis program includes approximately eight (8) weeks of training at PPL's training center in Allentown to be followed by on-the-job training at the successful candidate's designated service center/work location (to be determined through the hiring process). Successful candidates must attend all eight (8) weeks of training - time off is not permitted during this time frame.

nThis is a "shift worker", union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

nThis is a union position within PPL. The successful candidates will become a member of IBEW Local 1600. The starting hourly rate for this position is $36.052.

nSuccessful candidates must meet a 30-mile residency requirement from their respective work location within six (6) months of start date and must be or become a PA resident.

nWe are currently looking for qualified candidates in the regions listed below. Specific Service Center locations will be shared once candidates are selected to move forward in the hiring process and are invited for testing.

n nSuccessful completion of a physical and written assessment is required for these positions. Details will be provided upon review and selection of candidates.

nAll invitations for testing and interviews will be sent via email.

nResponsibilities

nPerforms semi-skilled labor at any work location on de-energized overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities to prepare the employee for entrance into the Journeyman Lineworker Apprenticeship Program.

nnnPerforms all the direct duties of the Groundhand-FS.

n

nnAssists higher classifications on de-energized overhead and underground work.This includes climbing and framing de-energized poles as well as pulling and placing of distribution and transmission type cables in de-energized areas.

n

nnDrives CDL vehicles (excluding high-reach equipment over 100 feet) and operates auxiliary mounted equipment, operates bucket trucks, line trucks, trenchers, skid loaders and material handling equipment such as forklifts under de-energized conditions only.

n

nnPerforms work from self-supporting structures of any height. Erects and performs work from scaffolds, spiders or similar support devices.

n

nnPerforms basic rigging such as moving or placing poles, transformers, switching devices, structures and other transmission and distribution equipment.

n

nnPerforms paperwork associated with the job duties.

n

nnPerforms such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.

nnnSuccessfully passing the PPL Skilled Trades Test or its replacement.

nnMotor vehicle operator's license and the ability to obtain a CDL license within six (6) months of start date.

nnGeneral knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.

nnIntelligence adequate to observe conditions, follow instructions and learn methods including basic computer-based applications pertaining to the job.

nnStrength and endurance to perform the job duties.

nnAbility to adhere to the safety rules applicable to the work performed.

nThe company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
