About the Facility This facility maintains the clinical infrastructure and established protocols necessary to support gastroenterology coverage across inpatient and outpatient settings at two locations. The facility is structured to ensure continuity of specialized care for an adult patient population, with APP support available to assist with inpatient clinical operations on weekdays. Locum tenens gastroenterology coverage is sought for specific stretches throughout January through December 2027.
About the Facility Location Carbondale, Illinois serves as a base for outdoor recreation, with access to Giant City State Park for hiking, rock climbing, and horseback riding, as well as Cedar Lake Beach and the trails of Shawnee National Forest. Families and individuals can enjoy activities such as Wild Animal Adventures, go-karts, and laser tag, while the area also offers wineries along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and live theater nearby. The region's natural landscape, including rock bluffs, lakes, and forest trails spanning over 400 miles, supports a range of pursuits for visitors and residents alike.
About the Clinician's Workday The gastroenterologist will provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology coverage on a 24-hour shift basis across two facilities, with call coverage required for nights and weekends. Monday through Friday, the clinician will begin the day performing outpatient procedures at the first facility, then coordinate with the inpatient APP to review admitted patients requiring consultation before traveling approximately 30 minutes to the second facility to complete inpatient consults with that facility's APP team. The clinician will then remain on call overnight until approximately 7:30 AM, when outpatient procedures resume; APP support is available on weekdays but is not present on weekends, requiring the clinician to manage inpatient responsibilities independently during that time. Board certification in Gastroenterology is required for consideration.
