Job description
A well-established litigation firm is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join its growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 0-5 years of experience who is interested in developing hands-on litigation skills, managing files independently, and working closely with insurance clients and policyholders in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
Manage a caseload from initial assignment through file closure.
Review files and conduct legal analysis of claims, defenses, and case strategy.
Represent insurance companies and their policyholders in workers' compensation and related defense matters.
Provide legal counsel and representation in proceedings, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
Communicate regularly with clients and provide timely case status updates.
Conduct legal research and develop effective defense strategies.
Attend court appearances, arbitration hearings, and other case-related proceedings.
Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
Assist with expert witness retention, trial preparation, and trial attendance.
Meet an annual billable hour requirement of 1800 hours.
Travel as needed for hearings, depositions, and other case-related matters.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
0-5 years of litigation, workers' compensation, insurance defense, or related experience.
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently.
Interest in building practical litigation experience in a defense-focused practice.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position starts at $70,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
