Job description

Finishing Operator

At Multi-Color Corporation (MCC), we're looking for a Finishing Operator to set up and operate equipment used in the post-print label finishing process. You'll work from job tickets and customer specifications, operate cutting equipment, inspect print and cutting quality, complete production documentation, and help keep the finishing area clean and organized.

Why This Role Is Different

This role gives you hands-on experience across the post-print label finishing process, from reviewing job specifications and preparing product through cutting, quality checks, material movement, and production documentation.

You'll work directly with job tickets, computer programs, scales, cutters, hand or pallet trucks, and finished product while coordinating with Quality Assurance and other finishing operators to maintain customer specifications.

The work builds practical finishing and cutting capability while developing your understanding of quality requirements, production documentation, equipment operation, and day-to-day manufacturing workflow.

What You'll Do

As the Finishing Operator, you'll perform the post-print finishing responsibilities required to prepare, inspect, cut, document, and move finished product in accordance with customer specifications.

Review job tickets and rule-up to determine customer specifications. Operate computer to check and select program from index or to add/modify program as required.  Contact quality assurance to obtain approval to run job.

Set scale to weigh product in proper amounts.

Jog product as required to insure proper line up.    

Check for all errors in printing such as color, dog-ears, register and scum.  

Set cutter side guides.  

Load product into cutter and cut.  

Check cutting operation and make adjustments as required to maintain specifications.

Check with Folder Operators and Overwrap Operators as necessary to insure cutting meets folding and wrapping requirements.

Check knife performance during operations to assure clean cuts. 

Operate hand or pallet truck to move finished product to staging area and/or to bring in empty skids, pallets, box, and carton supplies from storage areas.

Complete load tags, tally sheets and final job tickets.

Complete daily production sheets and record each job run, job number, customer name and any specifics pertaining to the job.

Train new Operators and helpers as necessary in jogging and cutting operations.

Maintain area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can work carefully from instructions and specifications, use basic math for production calculations, solve standardized problems, and meet the physical demands of a hands-on finishing environment. Cutting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

1 to 2 years of experience on a variety of cutting operations preferable.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The physical demands require standing, using hands to finger, feel and touch; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear.

This position requires frequent walking.

Physical Requirements

Occasionally employee is required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 

Must be able to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
