About the Role:
Horspool & Romine MFG is a long-standing, family-owned machine shop looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Machine Operator / Machinist to join our team.
We are looking for a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented individual who takes pride in producing quality parts and doing the job right. The ideal candidate works well independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and safety.
Machining experience is preferred, but we are willing to consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. If you enjoy hands-on work and take pride in quality craftsmanship, we'd like to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
* Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
* Produce precision parts according to customer drawings, specifications, and requirements.
* Perform machining operations including turning, milling, grinding, cutting, and other related processes.
* Read and understand engineering drawings and work instructions.
* Take accurate measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
* Inspect parts to ensure dimensions and tolerances meet requirements.
* Make appropriate tool or machine adjustments to maintain part quality.
* Maintain accurate part counts and production records.
* Identify and properly document approved and defective parts.
* Complete jobs efficiently and within established timeframes.
* Keep work areas, machines, and tools clean, organized, and safe.
* Follow company quality and safety procedures.
* Perform routine machine maintenance and notify management of equipment issues.
* Work cooperatively with other employees and assist with other shop duties as needed.
Requirements:
* Previous experience working in a machine shop preferred.
* Experience operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, or similar equipment.
* Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
* Experience using precision inspection equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
* Basic understanding of machining processes and cutting tools.
* Basic math skills, including the ability to work with fractions and measurements.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
* Ability to accurately maintain part counts and production records.
* Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
* Dependable, responsible, and willing to learn.
* Strong commitment to workplace safety and maintaining a clean work environment.
* Ability to lift and move materials and parts weighing 25+ lbs.
* Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
* Must be a U.S. citizen.
