Machine Shop Operator (Operator 3)We are seeking a skilled and self-sufficient Machine Shop Operator (CNC Machinist) to support precision machining, prototyping, and equipment build activities. This role requires the ability to independently set up, operate, and troubleshoot machining processes while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency.The ideal candidate thrives in a low-volume / high-mix prototyping environment and collaborates closely with engineering teams to deliver complex components for robotics and automation systems.CNC Setup & OperationIndependently set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual machinesLoad, verify, and execute CNC programs; perform basic program edits (offsets, feeds/speeds)Select and install tooling, workholding, and fixtures for each jobRun first articles and transition to stable production runsMachining ExecutionProduce precision-machined components to engineering specificationsRead and interpret complex mechanical drawings and GD&TManage multiple jobs and priorities in a fast-paced shopInspection & Quality ControlPerform in-process and final inspections using precision metrology toolsValidate parts against tolerances and surface finish requirementsIdentify non-conformances and take corrective actionTroubleshooting & OptimizationDiagnose machining issues (tool wear, chatter, dimensional drift)Adjust programs, tooling, and setups to improve part quality and cycle timeRecommend manufacturability improvements to engineeringEquipment OwnershipConduct routine machine maintenance (coolant, lubrication, cleaning)Maintain tooling readiness and organization (5S discipline)Escalate equipment issues as neededSafety & ComplianceFollow all machine shop safety standards, including PPE and machine guarding requirementsPerform pre-operation safety checks and hazard identificationEnsure safe machine operation and adherence to established proceduresCross-Functional CollaborationWork directly with engineers on prototype builds and iterationsProvide feedback on part design for manufacturability (DFM)Support continuous improvement initiativesRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent3–5+ years of CNC machining experience (mills and/or lathes)Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&TExperience using precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.)Solid understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materialsPreferred QualificationsTechnical certification or associate degree in machining/manufacturingExperience in prototype or R&D machine shop environmentsFamiliarity with multi-axis machining (4/5-axis)Basic G-code knowledge or program editing capabilityExperience with Haas, Mazak, Mori Seiki, or similar platformsExposure to robotics, automation, or semiconductor equipmentKey CompetenciesHigh attention to detail and quality ownershipStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilityAbility to manage multiple concurrent jobsEffective communication with engineering and operations teamsWork EnvironmentMachine shop environment with CNC and manual equipmentExposure to noise, moving machinery, and metalworking processesRequired use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and appropriate attireFor positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
