Maintenance – GroundskeeperWage/Hour Status: NonexemptReports to: Groundskeeping SupervisorPay Grade: Auxiliary 2Dept./School: Facilities & ConstructionWork Calendar: 250 DaysDate Revised: 08/28/2025PRIMARY PURPOSEMaintain safe, clean, and attractive district grounds and landscaping. Prepare and maintain athletic fields to ensure safe and functional playing surfaces.QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Certification:Valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to safely operate power-driven equipmentExperience:None requiredMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESGrounds and LandscapingMow and detail district grounds, including athletic fields.Follow scheduled maintenance plans to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds through watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and weed control.Plant shrubs, trees, and other vegetation.Assist with preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking and lining.Collect and properly dispose of leaves, dirt, debris, and refuse.Assist with inspection, repair, and installation of irrigation systems.SafetyOperate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Follow proper safety techniques when lifting, climbing, and operating machinery.Correct unsafe conditions and promptly report conditions that cannot be immediately corrected.Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition.Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency; perform preventive maintenance as needed.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.OtherTransport equipment and materials to work sites throughout the district.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNone.MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORSTools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader, and power mower; light truck or van. Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching, and driving. Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Environment: Work primarily outdoors on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, vibration, herbicides, fertilizers, electrical hazards, and machinery with moving parts; may work alone; may work irregular or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
