Job Brief
Preventive Maintenance Mechanic
Position: Maintenance Technician
Location: Dugway Proving Ground
Summary: Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as air handlers, pumps, generators, air compressors, boilers, exhaust and supply fans, and garage doors. Required to perform diagnostic testing on equipment to determine necessary repairs. Other duties may include basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC repairs as well as painting, drywall repairs, concrete and flooring repairs.
Qualifications: A minimum of two years of work-related experience.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
Purpose of Classification: To provide maintenance and repair work for machinery and installed equipment in accordance with the Dugway Proving Ground PWS.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Troubleshoot equipment or machinery to determine cause of failure
• Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work
• Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems
• Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs
• Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures
• Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to manufacturer's specifications.
• Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists
• Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information
• Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance
• Set up and operate machines, and adjust controls to regulate operations
• Use of lockout tag out
• Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Special Knowledge / Skills Required:
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
• Ability to read, write and receive written and/or verbal instructions in English
• Must have excellent verbal communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian customers
• Must possess valid State Driver's License
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
