Job description
Maintenance/Grounds TechnicianThe Maintenance/Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a condition of operating excellence to support safe, efficient, and welcoming learning environments. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks and plays a critical role in ensuring district facilities are safe, functional, and ready for daily educational use.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including work related to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry systemsAssist with HVAC system maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs (experience in HVAC systems is highly desirable)Maintain school grounds, including landscaping, snow removal, and seasonal upkeepUtilize computerized building management systems and maintenance tracking toolsConduct routine inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance or safety concernsRespond to work orders and emergency maintenance needs in a timely mannerFollow established safety practices, district policies, and applicable regulationsWork collaboratively with other maintenance staff and school personnelKnowledge, skills, and abilities required include:Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in multiple maintenance trades, including HVACStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a teamCommitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized work environmentAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsEducation, training, and experience required:High school diploma or GED requiredMinimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related fieldExperience in a school district, municipal, or institutional setting preferredCertificates and license requirements:Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving recordAbility to obtain a Pesticide Operator's License and Lead Paint Renovation and Repair Certificate within the first year of employmentWhy work for our district:Stable, year-round employment in a supportive, team-oriented environmentCompetitive union-based wages with opportunities for step increasesComprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement, and paid time offMeaningful work that directly supports students, staff, and the school communityA district culture that values safety, collaboration, and professional pride in maintaining our schoolsAdditional information:This position is a union position and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
