Maintenance WorkerPerform maintenance duties related to the school plant, buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. Maintain and repair a variety of tools, machines, mechanical and electrical equipment, building construction, and furniture. Perform related tasks as required for the operation of all school district buildings.Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDThree years of experience in maintenanceExperience or knowledge of all building trade skillsValid Ohio driver's licenseRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work effectively with others and embrace assigned dutiesAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsComputer skillsOrganizational and problem-solving skillsBasic understanding of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, roofing, and glazingTraining in the proper care and storage of chemicals, e.g., hazards communication trainingAbility to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings, and labelsAbility to operate machineryAbility to distinguish colors for electrical wiring purposesTraining in OSHA rules and regulationsCommitment to high-quality work and craftsmanship in maintaining buildings and groundsThorough understanding of friendly customer serviceEssential Functions:Ensure the safety of studentsPerform normal operator adjustments and service to facility equipmentAssume primary responsibility for the safe condition of electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the school districtPerform general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plantPerform general labor inside and outside the physical plant, including district-wide grounds keeping, landscaping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating power-driver equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, mowing, etc.Recommend supplies and equipment for purchaseConduct periodical inspections of the facilitiesDeliver needed supplies and equipment to buildingsPerform a yearly inventory of the work area, supplies, and equipmentPromote good safety practices and proceduresRepair and maintain HVAC, motors, and filtersInspect roofs for leaks and repairPerform painting projects as assignedRepair and maintain electrical components, e.g., install new circuits, run new wire, install new breakersRenew plumbing components, e.g., clean sewer lines, and replace fixturesAssemble and install educational equipmentRepair doors, windows, and ventsRepair and replace carpet and floor tilesRepair masonry structuresAssist with district operations as assignedMaintain all safety and code requirements of the federal, state, and local boards of authorityMaintain and install windscreens, netting pads, and any temporary fencingMaintains, paints, cleans, repairs, and prepares fences, swings, bike racks, bleachers, tables, and athletic fieldsTraining by a certified person on handling, use, and proper maintenance of pool chemicals, including filters. Valves, pumps, and periodic testing (Certified Pool Operator certificate required to work the pool)Repair and maintain district playground and athletic facility equipment to assure safetyPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversationOther Duties and Responsibilities:Frequent requirement to work near moving mechanical partsInstruct other workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use of toolsOrder and account for material and labor relative to assignmentsMaintain the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and suppliesConduct routine and periodic inspections of the school and facilities as part of a preventative maintenance programAssist in the care of all maintenance tools and suppliesEnsure the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and groundsComplete paperwork as necessaryPerform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator, Head Groundskeeper, or Director of OperationsCoordinate activities with PTO's, booster groups, and students for special grounds activitiesDuties as assigned by the Director of Operational ServicesEquipment Operated:Computer and or handheld deviceCommunication equipmentMotor vehicleTruck with trailerTractorsForkliftSnow removal equipment, including plows, snow blowers, and other related itemsVarious hand toolsHVAC equipmentLawn/field equipment (mowers, trimmers, edgers, weed wackers, etc.)Fertilizers, spreaders, and weed sprayersAthletic field line striping equipmentHydraulic liftChain hoistWelderDrill pressSawsElectrical, plumbing, and carpentry toolsBattery chargerWelding unitOther maintenance tools as requiredAdditional Working Conditions:Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissueOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., must be prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days, including calamity daysOccasional evening/weekend work/early morningOccasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., use of hand toolsFrequent requirement to work near moving mechanical parts, e.g., drill press, circular saw, table saw, hand toolsOccasional requirement to work in high placesOccasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, dangerous, or caustic chemicals, e.g., chlorine, asbestos, welding dustOccasional exposure to loud noises, e.g., power toolsFrequent requirement to lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 60 lbs.Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 60 lbs.Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school buildingFrequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipmentEmployee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.
