Job description
Maintenance Worker
The City of Aiken is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our Public Services Department in the Buildings and Grounds Division.
Examples of Duties
Installation and maintenance of seasonal flowerbeds
General landscaping maintenance
Performing manual labor and related duties
Installs sod, trees and various other plants
Applies pesticides and herbicides
Operates chipper and a variety of commercial mowers and small engine hand tools
Works in inclement weather
Teamwork is an essential function of the job and at times it may be required that the candidate work outside the Grounds Division.
Minimum Qualifications
A working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees is preferred
Experience with tractor/large equipment is desirable
Must be able to read and write, as well as understand and follow verbal instructions
Must have a valid state driver's license

Retirement Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
