Maintenance Worker I - (Public Works)Title: Maintenance Worker I - (Public Works)Salary Range: $16.75 hourlyFull Time/Part Time: Full TimeDescriptionThis position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under direct supervision of a Foreman, Lead Worker, or other higher-level classified employees. Duties may involve the use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as a part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions. Ideal candidate will have mowing, pond maintenance, or street maintenance experience.Performs duties such as right-of-way/pond maintenance (cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, spreading grass seed, fertilizing)Other duties include: unskilled painting, removing dirt and grease from vehicles, assisting in concrete work, servicing tools and automotive equipment, cleaning ditches and catch basins, and digging excavations.High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is preferred.Some experience in manual labor is preferable in work which involves hand tools and simple power tools used in the construction trades.An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.Ability to read and write neatly.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and verbal form.Ability to work independently and in a diligent manner.Ability to use various hand and power tools related to the job.Good physical condition is essential.
