Job description
Grounds Keeping PositionPerforms semi-skilled work in area of grounds keeping.Essential Functions:Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers;Maintains and adjusts sprinkler systems, provides irrigation services, maintains irrigation equipment, and removes graffiti;Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or string trimmersGather and remove litterLoad, or unload materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations according to directionsPrune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain sawsUse hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axesCare for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or wallsPerform trash and debris removal, cleaning of facilities and restroomsPerforms a variety of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of city owned structures and facilitiesSecondary Functions:Performs other related duties as assigned.Supervisory Functions: None.Minimum Qualifications:Must be 18 years of age, related experience or training in landscaping, grounds keeping or mowing.Knowledge, Skills:Principles and practices in the maintenance/construction trades field;Tools associated with grounds keeping, construction, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrician, and refrigeration;Federal, state and local codes and regulations specific to construction and maintenance, herbicide applications, worker safety;OSHA safety regulations;Use of a variety of power and hand tools.Ability:Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws;Deal courteously with other city employees and the public;Coordinate visual and muscular dexterity in the operation of a variety of hand-held tools;Establish and maintain effective working relationships;Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings;Ability to write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information;Ability to follow instructions, responds to management direction; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan;Ability to meet scheduling and attendance requirements.Requirements:Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:Tennessee Drivers' LicenseRequired Education/Or Experience:Must be 18 years of age, related experience or training in landscaping, grounds keeping or mowing.Preferred Education/Or Experience:Must be 18 years of age, related experience or training in landscaping, grounds keeping or mowing.Physical Conditions:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
