Job description

The Area Manager is responsible for leading both sales and margin goals within their home store, as well as assigned stores. Key responsibilities include achieving daily store production targets, driving consistent store environment standards, and delivering engaging customer experiences. Successful candidates have a proven track record of coaching, guiding, and developing leadership and associate teams.

This role is expected to support multiple store locations. Area Managers will typically remain aligned to their current home store while also providing support to an additional location. Final store assignments will be based on territory needs and will be communicated during the offer process.

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Implements strategy for all daily store, production and donation center activities within home store, and provides leadership to assigned area stores. Oversees daily operations, direct staff and ensures implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs. Maintains operating budget and manages expenses. Communicates budgetary performance. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 1-2 years and focuses on the creation of systems, processes and programs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Leading and Developing Talent: Manages departmental structure, development and training of staff. Actively networks and sources for positions within the team.

2. Project and Change Management: Plans and manages projects of low to moderate complexity related to departmental function. Manages change with direct reports and participates in the leadership coalition that supports the change.

3. Community Engagement: Understands social trends driving Goodwill's community engagement initiatives, and champions initiatives.

4. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of all required reports and records.

5. Responsible for the growth and development of assigned area store teams in order to provide leaders for the future growth of Retail Services.

6. Maintain adequate volume of merchandise displayed on sales floor, ensuring production volume is sufficient to reach revenue and margin goals for assigned area stores.

7. Visually inspect merchandise to ensure quality and product safety guidelines are consistently met. Observe merchandise presentation, floor layout, safety and security concerns.

8. Gather, analyze, record and express production information on a verbal, written and automated basis. Ensure appropriate product levels are defined, developed and maintained. Optimize work flow and work schedules maintaining efficient usage of facility la

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Associates Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 3 years' managerial experience or Associates Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 7 years' experience.

2. Valid driver's license required. Forklift certification, if required by site.

3. Work a minimum of two closing shifts per month and alternate weekends. Additional nights and weekends may be required as business warrants.

4. Must have working phone that allows for communication accessibility.

5. Able to relocate within assigned territory.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Job requires the following: remain stationary for sustained periods of time; ability to move about to accomplish tasks; must be able to operate a computer or similar technology, which typically involves substantial motions of wrist, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing data, operating equipment or review thoroughness of work; ability to communicate with others and exchange information.
