Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting
About the Role
The Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting will assist in preparing technical accounting memos on issues relevant to Alarm.com and researching authoritative accounting guidance under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"), under the direction of the Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. The position will also support the implementation of new accounting standards.
The role is also responsible for preparing the Form 10-Ks, 10-Qs and related financial schedules supporting the financial statement disclosures, along with other Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") filings (e.g., 8-Ks), and for the completion and review of eXtensible Business Reporting Language ("XBRL") on a quarterly basis.
Additional responsibilities include assessing the accounting for and tracking of development projects eligible for capitalization, calculating credit losses under the Current Expected Credit Losses model, assisting with due diligence and purchase accounting procedures for acquisitions, coordinating with third-party valuation experts on intangible asset valuations, reviewing customer and vendor contracts as well as lease contracts to assess proper accounting treatment, and performing financial reporting and process controls on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as necessary.
The Manager will also assist in gathering support for external auditors and responding to questions related to tests of controls, interim procedures, quarterly reviews and year-end audits, helping ensure support schedules are accurate and provided to auditors on a timely basis.
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys being in the office and working closely with teammates and cross-functional partners in support of the broader organization and team goals.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting
Research technical accounting issues and draft memorandums summarizing the applicable guidance and its impact on operations and financial statement disclosures.
Draft 10-Ks and 10-Qs and related financial schedules in accordance with presentation and disclosure requirements.
Prepare other SEC filings (e.g., 8-Ks) and complete and review XBRL on a quarterly basis.
Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards.
Analyze development projects for capitalization and calculate the amount of costs eligible for capitalization.
Calculate the credit loss percentage to be applied to outstanding receivables on a quarterly basis.
Contract Review
Analyze customer and vendor contracts and determine the proper accounting treatment.
Analyze lease contracts, identify lease and non-lease components and determine the proper accounting treatment.
Mergers & Acquisitions Support
Perform due diligence and purchase accounting procedures for acquisitions, including creating and executing work plans and drafting memos summarizing findings and technical accounting issues.
Coordinate with third-party valuation experts for intangible asset valuations and review valuation reports.
