About All In One Accounting
All In One Accounting is a 7-time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the Twin Cities and one of the Best Places to Work in the Minneapolis area. Our purpose is simple: to make the lives of entrepreneurial and nonprofit leaders better. We do that by supporting profitable growth, protecting assets, and amplifying impact — bringing financial clarity and strategic leadership to the clients who need it most. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear goals, strong accountability, and a team that executes with intention.
The Managing Director Role at AIOA
At AIOA, the Managing Director is the senior leader of their industry practice — a business unit with its own P&L, its own team of CFOs, and its own book of clients. You report to the EVP, Operations and sit on the Operations leadership team. Your CFOs own individual client relationships; you own the practice system that produces excellent client outcomes at scale. The single owner of every client relationship is the CFO — your accountability is the quality of the team, the health of the practice, and the performance of the business unit(s) you run.
About This Role
We're seeking a Managing Director to own and lead AIOA's Construction Practice and Manufacturing Practice as a combined business unit — serving general contractors, subcontractors, home builders, developers, and specialty trade businesses alongside job shops, discrete manufacturers, process manufacturers, fabricators, and other production-oriented businesses. You set the direction, lead the people, own the practice-level client outcomes, and are accountable for the full combined P&L across both verticals. You'll lead a team of CFOs who each own their own books of construction and/or manufacturing clients. As each practice matures and its client base and team grow, we anticipate splitting Construction and Manufacturing into two standalone practices, each led by its own Managing Director — this role is the founding leader of both until that point, and the natural first candidate for one of the resulting seats.
Now About You
We hire for hungry, humble, and smart — and Managing Directors at AIOA bring those qualities at the highest level of individual practice ownership. Hungry means you're not just managing your practice — you're actively growing it, developing your people, and raising the bar for what great looks like. Humble means you share your expertise freely, take direction from the EVP even when you're the most experienced person in the room, and give credit generously. Smart means your CFOs and clients rely on your judgment for the most complex situations — and you've earned that trust by consistently delivering. Given the combined scope of this role, you're also comfortable operating across two distinct industries at once, switching context between construction-specific and manufacturing-specific issues without losing altitude on either.
LMA Accountability
In EOS, LMA — Leadership, Management, and Accountability — is the framework through which every leader fulfills their people responsibilities. As a Managing Director, your LMA accountability covers your full combined practice team across Construction and Manufacturing: you hire, develop, and retain talent, manage capacity proactively, and hold your CFOs accountable to their client and team outcomes. LMA is not a task — it is the core of your leadership role.
How Business Development Works At AIOA
At AIOA, business development is a team effort. A dedicated Business Development team handles lead generation and pipeline management. Your role in growth is different and complementary: you define the ideal client profile for both the Construction and Manufacturing practices, serve as the subject matter expert who closes qualified opportunities that BD surfaces in either vertical, drive expansion within your existing book, and build the external reputation that makes both practices the obvious choice in their respective industries. You are not expected to cold-call or run a pipeline. You are expected to be a credible, connected, and trusted voice in both the construction and manufacturing sectors.
Responsibilities & Expectations
Client Portfolio Leadership & Escalation Management
Own the full client portfolio of both the Construction and Manufacturing Practices at the practice level — retention, satisfaction, NPS, and expansion opportunities across both verticals
The single owner of every client relationship is the CFO — your accountability is the practice system and team performance that makes those outcomes possible in both practices
Serve as the escalation management point for complex or at-risk client situations that exceed the CFO level, in either Construction or Manufacturing
Set and maintain quality standards for construction financial advisory work — including job cost accuracy, WIP management, AIA billing, bonding support, and cash flow forecasting
Set and maintain quality standards for manufacturing financial advisory work — including cost accounting accuracy, inventory management, ERP integration, and variance analysis
Drive expansion of services within the existing book through your CFOs, across both practices
Define the ideal client profile for both the Construction and Manufacturing Practices and partner with the Business Development team
Serve as the subject matter expert closer for qualified construction and manufacturing prospects surfaced by the Business Development team
Deliver workbook analysis and Value Workshops to clients in both verticals — providing strategic financial perspective at the practice level
Develop and grow strategic partnerships in the construction sector — with surety brokers, lenders, CPAs, and construction attorneys
Develop and grow strategic partnerships in the manufacturing sector — with lenders, private equity partners, CPAs, and industry associations
LMA — Leadership, Management & Accountability
LMA: hire, develop, and retain talent across both practices — you are accountable for building and maintaining a high-performing combined team of CFOs
Manage capacity proactively across two practices — ensuring neither is overwhelmed nor underutilized as each grows at its own pace
Hold your CFOs accountable to their client outcomes, team health metrics, and EOS commitments, regardless of which practice they primarily serve
Create career pathways and development plans for CFOs, Senior Controllers, Controllers, Senior Accountants, and Accountants within both practices
Foster a culture of Commitment, Foresight, Relationships, Tenacity, and Teamwork across the combined Construction & Manufacturing team
Partner with Talent on hiring decisions for your practice team(s)
Practice P&L & Business Performance
Own the full combined P&L of the Construction and Manufacturing Practices — revenue, cost management, profitability, and budget accountability for both
Develop and execute the annual practice plan for each vertical, including growth targets, hiring plans, and service delivery goals
Report on performance of both practices to the EVP, Operations through EOS tools including Scorecard, Rocks, and L10 meetings
Drive process improvements and best practices that elevate construction and manufacturing accounting delivery across the firm
Monitor the growth trajectory of each practice and provide input on the right timing and structure for eventually splitting Construction and Manufacturing into standalone business units
Thought Leadership & Strategic Partnerships
Build and maintain AIOA's external reputation in the construction sector — speaking at AGC, ABC, or other industry events and developing key referral partnerships
Build and maintain AIOA's external reputation in the manufacturing sector — speaking at industry events and developing key referral partnerships
Stay current on construction accounting standards, bonding requirements, prevailing wage regulations, and market trends
Stay current on manufacturing accounting standards, ERP trends, cost accounting best practices, and operational finance developments
Champion technology standards within both practices — ensuring proficiency with construction-specific and manufacturing/ERP platforms
Identify and advocate for new service lines or delivery approaches that could strengthen either practice
Internal Responsibilities
Complete all internal responsibilities including time tracking, capacity planning, and quarterly Rocks
Actively participate in All In One Accounting's Brand Ambassador program, representing our mission and values
Uphold security practices to protect client assets and firm data effectively
Requirements
The Successful Candidate Will Have
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field (CPA strongly preferred)
Experience in a multi-client or Client Accounting Services (CAS) environment strongly preferred — candidates who have managed a portfolio of clients will ramp faster and thrive here
12–15+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial leadership, ideally with exposure to construction, manufacturing, or both sectors
Proven track record of LMA — leading, managing, and holding teams accountable to outcomes
Comfort operating across two industries simultaneously, with the versatility to learn the technical nuances of whichever sector is less familiar
Deep expertise in at least one of the following, with working familiarity with the other: job cost accounting, WIP management, percentage-of-completion, and bonding/construction contract finance; OR cost accounting, standard costing, inventory management, and ERP-based manufacturing financial strategy
Demonstrated experience owning client portfolios and practice-level business outcomes
P&L ownership or business unit management experience strongly preferred
Established presence or network in the nonprofit sector with the credibility to represent AIOA externally as a thought leader
Excellence in executive-level communication with nonprofit leaders, boards, and external advisors
Experience in or strong familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) preferred
Open to internal candidates with CFO experience at AIOA who are ready to step into practice leadership
