Our York facility is recognised as a Fabrication and Machining Centre of Excellence, benefiting from significant investment in technology, equipment and capabilities to support continued growth and customer demand. We are looking for a Grinding Operator to join our team.A Grinding Operator operates grinding machines to shape, smooth, and finish metal or any parts to precise specifications while ensuring quality and safety standards.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate Grinding Machines: Set up, adjust, and control grinding machines to grind, polish, or finish metal or any parts according to specificationsInspect Workpieces: Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and templates to measure and ensure parts meet dimensional and surface quality standardsMachine Maintenance: Clean, lubricate, and perform basic maintenance on machines; replace worn or broken parts as neededSelect and Mount Tools: Choose appropriate grinding wheels or cutting tools and attach them to machines, adjusting speed and feed rates for optimal performanceQuality Control: Monitor operations, stop machines if problems occur, and set aside defective partsRecord Keeping: Maintain accurate production records and report any issues with machinery or processesSafety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, and maintain a clean and safe work environmentSkills and QualificationsTechnical Skills: Knowledge of grinding techniques, machine operation, and precision measurement toolsAttention to Detail: Ability to detect defects and ensure parts meet exact specificationsProblem-Solving: Adjust machine settings and troubleshoot issues during operationsEducation: Engineering backgroundPhysical Requirements: Ability to handle heavy machinery, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks safelyWork EnvironmentGrinding operative will be working in a manufacturing and industrial repairing environment, including metal fabrication.
