Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer supports the Manufacturing Manager in daily production operations, line management, and cross-functional initiatives. Acting as a bridge between R&D and shop-floor execution, this role leads the introduction of new products, processes, materials, and components into production. Primary responsibilities include identifying operational bottlenecks, conducting root-cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, generating standard technical documentation, and delivering hands-on training to ensure safe, consistent, and lean manufacturing output.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily Operational & Production Support
Assist the Manufacturing Manager with daily priorities, capacity planning, line balancing, floor layouts, and action-item tracking to ensure timely closure.
Collect and analyze manufacturing metrics including yield, throughput, downtime, scrap rates, and labor efficiency.
Provide continuous, hands-on support on the shop floor to quickly adapt to shifting operational priorities.
2. Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement
Proactively detect workflow, equipment, tooling, quality, and material issues across active assembly lines.
Coordinate cross-functional troubleshooting with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, and Supply Chain teams.
Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies (5S, RCA, CAPA, PFMEA) to isolate root causes, execute corrective actions, and verify long-term effectiveness.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting cycle times, safety standards, cost reduction, and material waste.
3. New Product & Process Introduction (NPI)
Serve as the primary manufacturing liaison to R&D during new product launches, process design, and material introductions.
Evaluate product designs, BOMs, and drawings for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and production readiness.
Lead prototype trials, pilot builds, process validations, and ramp-up activities; manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) through floor execution.
Partner with Quality and Supply Chain on vendor/component qualification and risk mitigation prior to mass release.
4. Documentation & Employee Training
Author, standardize, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), visual aids, and assembly checklists.
Translate complex engineering specifications into intuitive instructions for operators.
Design and deliver onboarding, cross-training, and retraining programs covering equipment operation, quality standards, and safety compliance.
Audit point-of-use documentation and incorporate floor feedback to continuously enhance procedural accuracy.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or related technical field).
Experience: 3+ years in manufacturing, production, or process engineering supporting active shop-floor environments.
Technical Skills: Hands-on expertise in NPI, process validation, line balancing, and engineering change management.
Methodologies: Solid grounding in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, RCA, CAPA, PFMEA, and continuous improvement frameworks.
Documentation & Systems: Proven ability to write concise SOPs and training content; proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ERP/MES experience is a plus.
Work Environment: Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work on-site in a high-velocity, fast-paced manufacturing facility.
