Job description

Manufacturing Production SupervisorThe Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for leading daily production operations within a corrugated packaging manufacturing facility. This role oversees employees, machine assets, quality standards, safety compliance, production scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives associated with the manufacturing and printing of bulk corrugated boxes. The supervisor ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of converting equipment such as corrugators, flexographic printers, die cutters, folder-gluers, and finishing equipment while meeting customer requirements and plant performance objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesProduction LeadershipDirect and coordinate daily manufacturing activities across assigned shifts.Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality, safety, and productivity standards.Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or machine assignments to optimize throughput.Manage startup, shutdown, and changeover activities of manufacturing equipment.Track key performance indicators (KPIs) including schedule attainment, waste, efficiency, downtime, and labor utilization.Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to prioritize customer orders and production requirements.Equipment & Machine Asset ManagementSupervise the operation of converting or corrugated presses, die cutters, folder-gluers, stitchers, and finishing equipment.Monitor machine performance and utilization to maximize operational efficiency.Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with maintenance teams.Ensure proper machine setup and adherence to operating procedures.Safety & Environmental CompliancePromote a culture of safety through active engagement and leadership.Conduct safety meetings, audits, observations, and investigations.Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards.Identify workplace hazards and implement corrective actions.Maintain emergency response preparedness and incident reporting procedures.Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Quality ManagementEnsure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.Monitor print quality, box dimensions, material integrity, and finished product requirements.Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action efforts related to quality issues.Work closely with Quality Assurance personnel to minimize customer complaints and defects.Support continuous improvement efforts focused on reducing waste and increasing first-pass yield.Employee Leadership & DevelopmentSupervise, coach, and develop production team members.Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.Manage employee attendance, disciplinary actions, and workforce scheduling.Identify training needs and ensure employees are properly qualified to operate equipment.Foster teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.Lead shift meetings and communicate plant goals and performance expectations.Continuous ImprovementSupport Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives.Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, safety, quality, and cost performance.Utilize data analysis to drive process improvements.Implement standard work procedures and best practices.Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.Experience3-7 years of manufacturing, production, or operations experience.2+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.Experience in corrugated packaging, printing, paper products, converting operations, or related industries strongly preferred.Experience leading hourly production employees in a high-volume manufacturing environment.Technical SkillsKnowledge of corrugated box manufacturing processes.Understanding of flexographic printing equipment and converting operations.Familiarity with industrial maintenance practices and machine asset utilization.Proficiency in production reporting systems, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.Core CompetenciesLeadership and Team DevelopmentOperational ExcellenceSafety ManagementManufacturing Process KnowledgeProblem Solving and Decision MakingCommunication SkillsConflict ResolutionPerformance ManagementQuality FocusCustomer FocusContinuous ImprovementStrategic ThinkingPhysical RequirementsAbility to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, and exposure to machinery.Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and hard hats.Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.Capable of working around moving mechanical equipment and varying temperature conditions.Key Performance MetricsSafety Incident RateProduction Schedule AttainmentOverall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)Labor ProductivityWaste and Scrap ReductionCustomer Quality PerformanceDowntime ReductionEmployee Engagement and RetentionOn-Time Delivery PerformanceCost Control and Budget AdherenceThis position serves as a frontline manufacturing leader responsible for safely converting paperboard into high-quality printed corrugated packaging products while driving operational excellence, employee development, and customer satisfaction.
