Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.SMT SPECIALIST - 2ND SHIFTWe are looking for talented, creative, and driven specialists to drive manufacturing tools and processes. Join the Starlink printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) team and take ownership of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes that enable the high-volume production of electronics designed for spaceflight. This is a hands-on engineering support role where you will develop, optimize, and scale SMT processes to meet aggressive rate and quality targets. You will bridge the gap between engineering and production — working closely with hardware engineers to improve manufacturability, rapidly troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-moving environment. If you thrive on solving complex manufacturing challenges and want to see your work launched into orbit, this role is for you.RESPONSIBILITIES:Optimize PCBA manufacturing processes including paste print, pick-and-place, reflow, conformal coating, selective soldering, board wash, and inspection (X-ray, AOI, SPI, visual)Program, configure, and improve automated SMT equipment to maximize yield and throughputDesign custom fixtures and tooling to improve process efficiency and ergonomicsPerform Design of Experiments (DOE) and data analysis to drive process capability and yield improvementsTrain and mentor technicians on advanced equipment operation and troubleshootingRapidly triage and resolve production issues while protecting design integrity and scheduleDefine equipment requirements and support validation for next-generation PCBA processesIdentify and execute continuous improvement projects targeting yield, cycle time, and costPartner closely with design engineering teams to provide real-time manufacturability feedbackExecute new product introduction (NPI) for PCBA assemblies across multiple work centersWork with external support teams to guarantee the daily success of PCBA production safely, reliably, and at rateBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalency certificate2+ years of troubleshooting technical problems in a manufacturing environmentPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or science disciplineAbility to thrive in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphereExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalExperience producing J-STD-001 Class 2, IPC-A-610 Class 2 or equivalent hardwareHands on experience with optimizing SMT pick and place, reflow oven, conformal coating, or through hole soldering systemsSoftware development, professional application power user, or competitive video gaming skillsExcellent attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle defects and maintain high-quality output in a high-volume environmentAbility to collect and analyze data to improve processes and qualityPositive attitude, strong team player, and willingness to provide constructive feedback to improve designs and toolingPrevious aerospace, automotive, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing experienceCOMPENSATION & BENEFITS:Pay range: SMT Specialist /Level 1: $34.00 - $40.00/hour SMT Specialist /Level 2: $38.00 - $45.00/hour SMT Specialist /Level 3: $42.00 - $51.00/hourYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
