Job description

Manufacturing SupervisorThe Manufacturing Supervisor is expected to actively manage the business throughout the shift—not simply react to issues. This includes understanding performance hour by hour, identifying gaps to plan, taking timely corrective action, escalating barriers, and ensuring effective communication across shifts and support functions.The successful supervisor creates a culture of accountability, ownership, teamwork, and continuous improvement while developing employees and maintaining high operational standards.Safety & ComplianceLead the shift with safety as the first priority and ensure employees consistently follow all safety policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and work instructions.Address unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately and ensure incidents and near misses are properly reported, investigated, and followed through to closure.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment using 5S and established workplace standards.Operational PerformanceOwn execution of the daily production plan and understand the shift's performance against established targets.Monitor production hour by hour and take corrective action when performance falls below plan.Manage key operating metrics including OEE, earned hours, units per hour, schedule attainment, downtime, first-pass yield, scrap/rework, and labor performance, as applicable to the assigned area.Identify production constraints involving staffing, tooling, equipment, material, quality, work orders, setup, or process issues and drive timely resolution.Develop and execute recovery plans when the shift is behind plan.Ensure production transactions and reporting are completed accurately and on time.People LeadershipProvide clear expectations and daily direction to employees at the beginning of and throughout the shift.Hold employees accountable for safety, quality, attendance, productivity, and workplace expectations.Coach employees through performance issues and recognize strong performance.Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development plans.Partner with Training and Operations leadership to ensure new employees successfully progress through established first-week, 30-day, and 60-day expectations.Identify employee skill gaps and coordinate cross-training to improve flexibility and coverage.Build a culture based on Trust, Accountability, Ownership, and Respect.Shift Management & CommunicationConduct effective shift-start and Tier meetings focused on safety, staffing, production priorities, quality concerns, and operational risks.Maintain accurate end-of-shift reporting covering safety, staffing, productivity, quality, downtime, and recovery actions.Ensure strong shift-to-shift handoffs so priorities, risks, equipment conditions, and open actions are clearly communicated.Escalate issues early when additional support is required rather than allowing problems to affect delivery.Continuous ImprovementUse data to identify recurring losses, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.Participate in and lead continuous improvement activities, including Kaizen, 5S, standard work, and problem-solving efforts.Partner with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, Materials, Tool Crib, and other support functions to eliminate barriers to production.Support implementation and sustainment of corrective actions and process improvements.Encourage employees to identify problems and participate in solutions.Area – Supervisor AccountabilitySafety - Safe shift, incident/near-miss follow-up, training compliancePeople - Plan HC vs. actual HC, attendance, training and developmentProductivity - Plan vs. actual production/earned hours and hourly performanceOEE - Availability, Performance and Quality lossesQuality - FPY, scrap, rework and containmentDowntime - Reason, duration, escalation and corrective actionDelivery - Schedule attainment and recovery planReporting - Accurate Tier/EOS reporting completed on timePhysical Requirements:Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floorAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach in order to access machinery and materialsAdequate vision (with or without correction) to read blueprints, gauges, and measurement toolsAbility to distinguish colors (for wiring, indicators, or material identification, if applicable)Hearing ability sufficient to monitor equipment and communicate in a noisy industrial environment (with hearing protection as required)Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, and hearing protectionMust be able to work in a Clean Room Environment with PPE such as gowns, protective safety glasses and/or face shields.Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:KPI reporting, data driven actionsStrong communication skillsStrong knowledge of Clean Room operationsStrong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (production flow, waste elimination, 5s, process optimization)ISO 9000 administrationLeadership Competencies and Desired Education:2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing strongly preferred.Make timely, data-driven decisions in complex situations. Balance strategic thinking with disciplined execution.Bachelor's degree in operations management, Engineering, or a related field, or 10 yrs. of progressive experience3-5 years of related manufacturing experienceBuild a culture where safety, quality, operational excellence, and employee engagement are core values.For candidates based in Minnesota: The pay range for this position is $79,600 - $135,300 annually.Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure, and relevant education or training. The pay scale is subject to change depending on business needs.
