nSummary

nJoin HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU) as a Marine Mechanic! This position will support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required. This is a full-time position, located in Chesapeake, VA.

nWhat You Will Do

nnnPerform maintenance and repairs on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems, vertical stores conveyors, and associated equipment.

n

nnMay provide direction and lead others.

n

nnTroubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.

n

nnMay manage one or more multiple jobs. Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks including duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

n

nnDevelop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.

n

n nWhat You Must Have

nnnHigh School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.

n

nnMust be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.

n

nnMust be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.

n

nnMust be able to travel when not assigned to local tasking.

n

nnMust have experience installing, maintaining and repairing structural and mechanical systems and associated equipment.

n

nnMust have experience using various power tools and measurement devices.

n

nnMust have the ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, technical drawings and/or technical manuals.

n

nnMust have knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures.

n

nnMust be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, and maintain clearance level throughout employment.

n

nnMust be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.

n

n nPreferred: Bonus Points For

nnnExperience related to maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevator, ordnance handling equipment, or vertical package conveyors preferred.

n

nnExperience in the operation, repair and maintenance of marine hydraulic systems highly desired.

n

nnPrior Shipboard experience preferred.

n

nnCandidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

n

nnCurrent or active DoD security clearance a plus.

n

nnOSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.

n nPhysical Requirements

nMust be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
