Job description
The Master Electrician provides for all electrical work to be accomplished in-house by the facilities staff. This
position performs day-to-day maintenance, project work, special events, and unscheduled maintenance as
directed by the Associate Director Facilities Management. The position reviews plans and drawings for projects, validates requirements for daily work, projects, and assesses, troubleshoots equipment for the repair of all electrical equipment ranging from light fixtures through motors and generators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, organize and layout all components of electrical work through the use of blue prints, specifications, interaction with consultants, contractors, architects, etc.
Coordinate own and others work between maintenance, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry departments, administration, and outside vendors.
Perform electrical work in medium voltage transmission and distribution systems and relays.
Perform repair of electric motors, generators and controllers ranging from fractional horsepower to 500 horsepower.
Repair, renovate and install electrical systems, components, fixtures, or electrical equipment in accordance with applicable NEC procedures and guidelines, manufacturer's specifications and department guidance.
Make repairs to operations, maintenance and electronic equipment as necessary.
Maintain files and documentation on building electrical systems as required.
Complete all work orders assigned and provide appropriate documentation in relation to completion of work.
Accomplish all work in accordance with MIOSHA/OSHA guidance, applicable City, County and State building codes and regulations.
Repair electrical systems for hydraulic equipment, injections molding, welding equipment, HVAC systems, etc.
Repair, maintain, and calibrate electrically operated controls and devices, such as communication devices, signaling devices, fire warning and security systems, including building access, ADA operators, electronic strikes, etc.
Travel throughout all GRCC campuses and Satellite Learning Centers using personal and/or company vehicles.
Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Educational Credentials High school degree or GED diploma required
Master electrical license required
Work Experience Five (5) years of experience as a master electrician preferred
Experience in an academic setting preferred
Skills Must be able to use all electrical measuring equipment/meters
Must be able to troubleshoot all types of electrical problems
Must be able to read and decipher blueprints
Must possess basic computer skills
Must have a valid Michigan driver license
Possess the ability to effectively communicate through written and oral communications
Physical Demands Be able to lift 50 pounds
Bend, stoop and stand for extended periods of time in completing work assignments
Must be able to use ladders
Mental Demands Ability to work in a group or alone in a variety of settings
Ability to interface with a staff at various levels
Provide courteous customer service to students, faculty, staff and the general public
Must be accessible and available to meet overtime/emergency commitments to fulfill the college mission and objectives

Must be able to work a 24 hour flexible schedule when required
Must be available for call-in work during off duty hours
Work alone or in groups
Work indoors and outdoors as necessary

Must be able to complete all assigned training/courses as directed by the Associate Director of Facilities Management
Travel is necessary to maintain college assets; including to Holland as needed
Use of ladders, scaffolding, and scissors lifts to complete overhead work
Occasional early morning starts, staying late, and/or alternate off shift working hours will be required
