Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Material Manager to oversee onsite material logistics, inventory control, equipment preservation, and supply-chain coordination for a large-scale data center construction project. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that construction materials and equipment are received, inspected, documented, stored, protected, and delivered to the appropriate work areas in accordance with the project schedule. The Material Manager will work closely with procurement, project controls, construction management, field supervision, vendors, subcontractors, and commissioning teams to prevent material shortages and schedule delays. This is a site-based position requiring strong construction knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple vendors, deliveries, storage areas, and material priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and manage the receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, tracking, and distribution of construction materials and equipment.

Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile onsite quantities against purchase orders, packing lists, procurement logs, and project requirements.

Track the status of critical and long-lead data center equipment, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, chillers, electrical cable, controls, mechanical equipment, and related components.

Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, project controls, procurement teams, and trade partners to forecast material requirements against the construction schedule.

Confirm that required materials and equipment are available before scheduled installation activities begin.

Inspect incoming deliveries for quantity, specifications, quality, visible damage, and compliance with purchase-order requirements.

Document and resolve shortages, overages, damaged materials, incorrect shipments, and vendor discrepancies.

Maintain receiving reports, delivery tickets, material logs, shortage reports, damage reports, and equipment documentation.

Manage laydown yards, warehouses, secured storage areas, and material staging locations to maximize organization, accessibility, and space utilization.

Establish and maintain material identification, tagging, location tracking, and chain-of-custody procedures.

Ensure equipment and materials are stored and preserved in accordance with manufacturer requirements and project specifications.

Coordinate forklifts, cranes, rigging support, material handlers, and other resources required for unloading and onsite material movement.

Work with procurement and vendors to expedite critical orders and prevent material-related schedule delays.

Participate in procurement, planning, construction, and material-status meetings.

Provide regular reports identifying material availability, expected deliveries, shortages, damaged equipment, and potential schedule risks.

Maintain compliance with project safety requirements and proper material-handling and storage procedures.

Coordinate the release and transfer of materials to subcontractors and field installation teams.

Support commissioning and project turnover by organizing equipment records, warranties, spare parts, certifications, inspection reports, and manufacturer documentation.

Complete final inventory reconciliation and assist with the disposition of surplus materials at project closeout.

Coordinate and provide direction to warehouse personnel, material handlers, equipment operators, and third-party logistics providers as assigned.

Qualifications

3 or more years of material management, construction logistics, inventory control, warehousing, or supply-chain experience.

Previous experience supporting data center, mission-critical, industrial, electrical, mechanical, or large commercial construction projects strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of construction materials, electrical and mechanical equipment, material-handling requirements, and onsite logistics.

Experience tracking long-lead equipment and coordinating deliveries against project schedules.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, purchase orders, bills of material, submittals, and packing lists.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory or material-management systems.

Experience with Procore, SAP, Oracle, or similar construction, procurement, or ERP platforms preferred.

Strong organizational, documentation, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to coordinate effectively with vendors, procurement teams, field leadership, subcontractors, and project-management personnel.

Forklift certification preferred.

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Ability to work full-time at the project site and adapt to changing project schedules, delivery requirements, and construction priorities.
