Job description

Library Clerk PositionThe Oak Park Public Library seeks a friendly, collaborative, and organized part-time Library Clerk to join our Materials Handling team.This position is part-time, 20 hours per week, including required weekend and evening hours. The hourly rate is $17.00.As part of the greater compensation package, part-time (20-hour) library staff members receive benefits, including:Enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a premier defined benefit (pension) plan for Illinois municipal government employeesAt least two weeks of paid vacation annually48 hours of paid health leave annually26 hours of paid personal leave annuallyUp to 13 paid holidays each year (only if regularly scheduled to work on the day of the holiday)8 weeks of paid parental leaveInterpreter compensation, if applicableTuition assistance for continuing educationPaid learning opportunities, such as webinars and conferences$150 Lifestyle Spending Account to enhance your physical, financial, and emotional well-beingEducation and ExperienceRequiredMust be at least 16 years old.PreferredHigh school diploma or equivalent.Previous customer service experience.Required QualificationsUnderstands, supports, and advances the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of the libraryService-oriented and committed to exceptional service to our patrons, staff, and community.Supports a positive team environment in which members participate, respect, and cooperate with each other to receive desired results.Demonstrates willingness to accept shifts in responsibilities due to the nature of a changing workplace.Takes the initiative to improve service, processes, programs, and products.Displays emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills in navigating the workplace.Be competent in current technology and willing to learn and grow in technical understanding.Be knowledgeable about library resources, services, and impact.Pays attention to detail.Demonstrates the capacity to maintain confidentiality.Bilingualism in English and Spanish (or another language relevant to Oak Park's community) is a plus; while not required, fluency in another language will enable you to provide exceptional customer service and build relationships with more of our community members.Physical DemandsFrequently required to walk, push, move, bend, stand, sit, squat, grasp, reach, stretch, talk, and hear.Close visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.Lift up to 50 pounds and transport or move up to 100 pounds of library materials from one location to another.Function in narrow aisles.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSorts and shelves returned materials.Processes materials from SWAN libraries.Assists with daily deliveries.Operates the automated materials handling machine.Retrieves and fulfills library materials holds.Maintains the physical collections.Helps with projects in other service areas as requested.Performs other duties as assigned.About the Oak Park Public LibraryThe Oak Park Public Library strategically prioritizes equity, anti-racism, engagement, learning, and stewardship.
