Mechanic, Class E - PainterThe Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Mechanic, Class E - Painter. Our vision is to provide a learning environment where all students are valued, accepted, and prepared to positively impact their lives, the community, and the world.Requirements and qualifications:Minimum qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentDemonstrate knowledge related to modern carpentry, painting, including related practices, materials, and equipmentFour (4) years' experience in the mechanics/maintenance craftValid New Jersey driver's licensePossess a Black Seal License or must obtain one within two (2) years of employmentAbility to perform tasks relating to other industry trades preferred (i.e. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.)Knowledge of basic regulations governing safety relating to the mechanics/maintenance craftAbility to effectively interact and communicate with internal and external customersAbility to perform tasks that require frequent heavy liftingFocused on safety and security of District staff and studentsExperience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mailRequired criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien statusRole & responsibilities:Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:PaintingPrepare surfaces prior to beginning workPaint a variety of surfaces (e.g. buildings, parking lot markings, floors, lockers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in an attractive, safe, and usable conditionProtect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job, including carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, lighting fixtures and landscapingPrepare a variety of surfaces (e.g. cleaning, sanding, patching, masking, nail holes, cracks, joints, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that they are ready for painting and/or refinishingRemove graffiti (e.g. cleaning walls, graffiti removal, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintaining attractive facilitiesMatch paint samples for touch-ups and other small projectsGeneralEnsure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practicesDemonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skillsCommunicate, interact and work effectively and cooperativelyRecognize the importance of safety in the workplace, including Public Employee Occupational Safety and Health Act (PEOSHA) regulations, practice safe work habitsUtilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administratorBe available when called upon by the Supervisor or Central Administrators after the regular workday for weather related and general emergenciesWill be required to support projects and initiatives in other departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basisPhysical requirements:The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.Environmental demands:The following environmental conditions are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.Reports to: Foreman/Facilities Operations OfficerEvaluated by: Foreman/Facilities Operations OfficerSalary range: Communications Workers of America (CWA) Mechanic E Salary ScaleEmployment period: Twelve months, non-tenurable positionUnion affiliation: Communications Workers of AmericaMinimum starting salary: $39,851.01Maximum starting salary: $56,149.75Residency requirement: Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state.
