Position Description
Position Summary
The Mechanic II is a mid-level role responsible for performing inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and moderately complex repairs on heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and other company vehicles. This position requires greater independence than Mechanic I and the ability to handle a wider range of repairs with minimal supervision. The Mechanic II also assists in training junior mechanics and ensuring that all work meets company, DOT, and OSHA standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system inspections.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
Replace or repair defective parts such as brakes, clutches, hydraulic hoses, cylinders, bearings, and belts.
Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Perform minor welding, cutting, and fabrication when needed.
Assist in overhauls of major components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems under guidance from senior mechanics.
Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records for all serviced equipment.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and work areas.
Follow all company safety policies and procedures and correct unsafe practices immediately.
Provide guidance and support to Mechanic I personnel and assist in their development.
Position Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in diesel, heavy equipment, or automotive repair preferred.
3-5 years of relevant experience as a mechanic, preferably in heavy equipment or diesel repair.
Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
Welding and fabrication skills preferred.
Valid driver's license; CDL preferred; clean 10 year MVR
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver heavy tools and parts.
Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and reach as needed for repairs.
Work in high-noise environments and around heavy equipment.
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes in extreme weather.
