Lift Mechanic

Reports To

Maintenance Supervisor / Service Manager

Job Summary

The Lift Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of lift equipment, including elevators, platform lifts, stair lifts, personnel lifts, hydraulic lifts, and related mechanical and electrical systems. The role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance on lift systems and equipment.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system problems.

Repair and replace defective components, including motors, pumps, valves, cables, relays, switches, and safety devices.

Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage, or operational issues.

Test lift systems after maintenance and repairs to verify safe operation.

Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.

Troubleshoot programmable controls and electronic monitoring systems.

Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and inspection reports.

Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely corrective actions.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, local building codes, and company safety procedures.

Coordinate with customers, operators, contractors, and other maintenance personnel.

Assist with installation, modernization, and commissioning of new lift equipment.

Maintain inventory of repair parts, tools, and supplies.

Participate in scheduled on-call rotations as required.

Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required.

Technical training in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or industrial maintenance preferred.

Valid driver's license.

Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications Trade school certificate or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, or related field.

State elevator mechanic license (where required).

Experience with elevators, accessibility lifts, stair lifts, escalators, or industrial lifting equipment.

OSHA safety training certification.

Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces.

Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and reaching.

Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoors.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Working Conditions Industrial, commercial, and residential job sites.

Exposure to moving machinery, electrical systems, and construction environments.

May require overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency service calls.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times when applicable.

Performance Measures Equipment uptime and reliability.

Preventive maintenance completion rate.

Response time to service calls.

Safety compliance and incident-free work performance.

Quality of repairs and customer satisfaction.

Accuracy of maintenance documentation.

Typical Experience Requirement: 3 to 5 years of experience in elevator, lift, industrial maintenance, or mechanical service environments.
