Mechatronics Engineer

Location: Fremont, CA

Compensation: $85,000–$150,000+ base salary, DOE

Hours: 8 hours/day; flexible start between 8:00–10:00 AM. Occasional evening meetings after 7:00 PM may be required for global collaboration.

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt, Onsite

Professional Japanese and English proficiency required. Japanese is used to review technical/design documentation and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams in Japan and Vietnam.

A global semiconductor automation equipment manufacturer designs and manufactures substrate-handling and related semiconductor production systems. Engineering projects range from lower-volume U.S. production to large-scale manufacturing in Asia.

Position Summary

The Mechatronics Engineer designs and develops semiconductor manufacturing equipment and implements engineering changes to existing products. This position combines mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, translating customer requirements into manufacturable designs while collaborating with teams and suppliers in the U.S. and Asia.

Candidates at different experience levels may be considered. Senior-level hires may have opportunities to lead engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design new semiconductor equipment and implement engineering changes.

Translate customer requirements into technical specifications and manufacturing requirements.

Design electrical systems involving power distribution, relays, I/O, circuit breakers, power supplies, and controllers.

Create mechanical designs using 3D CAD and integrate automation software.

Produce manufacturing drawings, wiring/pneumatic diagrams, and technical documentation.

Perform design calculations, simulation/FEA, testing, debugging, and design verification.

Lead internal and customer design reviews.

Select components considering manufacturing location, regulations, cost, and production volume.

Manage multiple engineering projects, schedules, and competing priorities.

Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, customers, and global teams.

Provide technical support and documentation to Field Service.

Qualifications

Required:

Professional Japanese and English proficiency.

Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; degree must be completed.

Strong working knowledge of both mechanical and electrical engineering.

Experience with electrical components such as relays, I/O, circuit breakers, power supplies, and/or microcontrollers.

Experience with 3D CAD and electrical/wiring design tools.

Technical understanding of software/automation integration.

Strong communication, project prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to travel internationally, including to Taiwan.

Preferred:

Semiconductor manufacturing or semiconductor capital equipment experience.

Autodesk Inventor/Vault and FEA/simulation experience.

Familiarity with CE and SEMI safety/performance standards.

C++, C#, .NET Framework, SECS/GEM, or GEM300 knowledge.

Master's degree.

Chinese language ability.

Other Details

Reports to the Director of Engineering and works with an engineering organization of approximately 17 engineers. Senior-level candidates may have team leadership responsibilities.

Travel is approximately 25%, including Taiwan, with potential travel to Japan and Arizona. Relocation assistance and H-1B sponsorship may be available.
