Job description

Medical Assistant 2The University of Miami, Executive Medicine Department is seeking a full-time, Medical Assistant 2 to work on-site in Boca Raton, FL. Medical Assistant (MA) shall perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA shall assist patients with healthcare management and clinical procedures. The MA shall prepare patients prior to and post examination, treatment or procedure under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA to the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor and/or Charge Nurse of the area.Core Job FunctionsObtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps.Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Other duties as assignedThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core QualificationsEducation:High School Diploma or GED equivalentRequired Medical Assistant certification and graduate from accredited Medical Assistant ProgramCertification and Licensing:Required an active and current BLS provider card by the American Heart AssociationMedical Assistant Certification (Any one of the Certifications below)· Certified Medical Assistant ( CMA )- Certification from American Association of Medical Assistant s (AAMA)®· Registered Medical Assistant ( RMA )(Certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)· Certified Clinical Medical Assistant ( CCMA )(Certification from National Healthcare Association (NHA)· National Certified Medical Assistant ( NCMA ) credential is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)· Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant ( NRCMA ) obtained by the National Association for Health Professionals. (NAHP)Experience:Minimum 2 years of relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Commitment to the University's core values.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Ability to demonstrate a sustainable high level of proficiency when performing skills that are within the scope of a Florida Medical Assistant's dutyKnowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatmentsKnowledge of sterile technique and other special procedures when applicableKnowledge of basic infection control preventions and maintains universal precautions techniques at all timeKnowledge of age of specific patient careAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients and clinical staff.Department Specific FunctionsMust be willing to travel/float between sitesBLS CertificationMedical Assistant Certification or Certified Nursing Assistant licenseOne year of previous medical assistant and/or urgent care experience preferredMust be computer literate; Excel, Word and PowerPoint a plusThe University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.
