Job description

Medical AssistantWe are seeking a compassionate, professional, and organized Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The Medical Assistant provides essential clinical and administrative support to physicians and nurse practitioners, helping ensure the efficient delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.The Medical Assistant will assist with patient preparation, clinical procedures, documentation, referrals, care coordination, and other office responsibilities. This position serves adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative medical environment.Key Responsibilities:Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with patient care, medical procedures, preliminary assessments, and examination preparation.Obtain and document patient vital signs and perform clinical procedures such as EKGs, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and specimen collection as ordered.Accurately document patient information, communications, vital signs, test results, and other clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR).Complete required patient documentation and reports, including disability forms, in accordance with established policies and procedures.Coordinate referrals, communicate appointment information to patients, and track specialist reports to ensure timely and complete documentation.Support pre-visit planning, chart preparation, and follow-up related to patient testing, referrals, and other care needs.Help maintain efficient patient flow and communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and families.Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect in all interactions.Contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment through teamwork and professional role modeling.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required.Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through RQI required.Certification from a Medical Assistant school licensed by New York State preferred.Prior experience in a physician office or other healthcare/medical setting preferred.Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program may be considered in lieu of prior experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidential patient information.Strong customer service and patient-centered communication skills.Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and basic office software preferred.Computer literacy and the ability to learn and use clinical and administrative systems efficiently.Commitment to safety, dignity, respect, and the overall well-being of patients and families.Patient-Centered Care:The Medical Assistant demonstrates behaviors consistent with Healing Environment principles, including professionalism, effective communication, and attention to the care environment. The position promotes patient safety, dignity, respect, and well-being while fostering healthy and collaborative relationships with patients, families, providers, and colleagues.Age-Specific Patient Care:The Medical Assistant must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to patients across the lifespan, including adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The position requires an understanding of growth and development and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to age-specific patient needs.Work Environment & Exposure:This position involves occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
