Medical AssistantUPMC Orthopedic Care is seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing orthopedic team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside providers in a fast-paced environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care while supporting patients throughout their orthopedic treatment journey.This position will provide support across multiple orthopedic office locations, including:2201 Brunswick Drive, Hanover, PA250 Fame Avenue, Hanover, PA1703 Innovation Drive, York, PATravel between centers is required to support providers and operational needs.Full-TimeDay ShiftMonday through FridayNo weekends or holidaysWhy Join UPMC Orthopedic Care?Fast-paced, collaborative orthopedic service lineTeam-oriented work environment focused on patient careOpportunity to work closely with providers and patientsVariety in daily responsibilities across multiple practice locationsSupportive team dedicated to delivering exceptional orthopedic careA Typical DayIn this role, you'll work directly with orthopedic providers, assisting with patient care, preparing patients for appointments, supporting clinical procedures, and helping ensure a seamless experience for patients from check-in through follow-up care. Every day offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working as part of a collaborative orthopedic team dedicated to excellent outcomes.Responsibilities:Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.Medical Assistant:High school diploma or equivalent is required.Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilitiesMedical Assistant, SeniorHigh school diploma or equivalent is required.Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireBasic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewalAct 33 with renewalAct 34 with renewalAct 73 FBI Clearance with renewalUPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
