The MA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when determining competencies and performing clinical tasks during patient care. The MA may report to a provider, administrative/practice lead, nurse manager and/or lead nurse, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and direction of staff, orientation and annual assessment of competencies and the assurance to clinic specific and hospital policies and procedures. The MA administers medications and immunizations, obtains vital signs, maintains an inventory of appropriate supplies, ensures safe and efficient patient flow, tracks high-risk referrals and lab tests, facilitates safe transitions of care, organizes the practice environment to assure patient safety and quality health outcomes, and contributes to HEDIS and designated quality measures. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice.Qualifications:Education: HS Diploma or GED req. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.Work Experience: No experience required. 1-2 years' experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training: Successful completion of Medical Assistant Certification Exam. Medical Assistant Certification required, successful completion of:CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)RMA (American Medical Technologists, American Allied Health, American Registry of Medical Assistants)NRCMA (National Assoc. for Health Professionals)NCMA (National Center Competency Testing)RCMAS (National Certification Medical Assoc.)CCMA (National Health career Assoc.)It is the organization's expectation that all incumbents be certified or registered within 3 months of employment, if not at hiring. Current MA certification must be maintained. Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years.***If bilingual, must successfully pass the required JHM approved designated language assessment prior to receiving employment. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
