Job description
Medical AssistantAs a Medical Assistant at PH Wellness, you will be a vital part of our dedicated team focused on providing high-quality and compassionate care to individuals undergoing substance abuse detoxification. Your role will involve comprehensive client assessments, medication administration (self-administered by our clients), and collaboration with the treatment team to ensure a safe and supportive environment during the critical detoxification phase and during residential treatment phase.Responsibilities include:Gathering consentsObtaining medical histories and assessments under the direction of the supervisorWorking with the physician to monitor health status to determine whether the health status warrants transfer of the resident to receive urgent or emergent careObserving clients, charting and reporting changes in client's conditions such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment and taking any necessary action to assure client safetyMeasuring and recording client's vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations when requiredReporting any discrepancies to physical or medical leadWorking as part of a health care team to assess client's needs, planning and modifying care and implementing interventionsFacilitating educational groups on medication managementRequesting inventory and requisition of supplies and instruments (Biofeedback, drug screens, breathalyzer, etc)Responsible for monthly first aid box checks and for keeping staff updated of their location, ensuring staff access to at least one box at each facilityResponsible for distribution of scrubs for clients use upon admission, and holding detox technicians accountable for the timely return of each set, by filling out proper documentationEnsuring non-licensed staff does not perform any monitoring of activities that require a licenseRe-assessing for re-admission with the PhysicianTesting associated with detoxification from alcohol or drugs and set up for Lab Work and check resultsProviding alcoholism or drug abuse recovery or treatment services within the scope of practiceOverseeing resident self-administered medicationsTreating substance abuse disorders, including detoxification as per Physicians ordersManaging IMS compliance for safety and security of clientsDocumentation of IMS progress of clientsCollecting resident data in a timely mannerCoordinating with other disciplines to provide the highest level of care as necessaryAttending treatment team and staff meetingsLogging medications, destructions, changes, and client observations of self-administration per company protocolResponsible for proper medication disposal with local pharmacyResponsible for Infection Prevention and Control related tasks assuring cleanliness at all timesQualifications:Minimum one-year experience working with dual diagnosis, substance abuse, chemical dependency, psychiatric, detox and/or medical surgical fieldsLicensed / certified as a California health care practitioner: Nurse, MA, CNALicensed RADT-I or SUDRCTwo years clean and sober if in recoveryCurrent CPR and First Aid Certification on file and maintained before expirationCurrent TB skin test and health screen report as requiredKnowledge of Twelve Step Recovery ProgramDHCS IMS regulationsCommunity resources and referral techniquesTesting and treating detoxification from alcohol or drugsWorking with addiction and dual diagnosisWorking with medical professionals in the communityExperience with Substance Use DisordersKnowledge shall include the signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug intoxication and withdrawal, as well as the appropriate treatment and monitoring of these conditions and how to facilitate the clients' entry into ongoing careThe handling of medical consultations and referrals shall be a necessity for emergenciesSkills:Good listenerGood with data entryGood communicator
