Job description

Medical Assistant / ScribeThe Medical Assistant / Scribe plays a vital dual role in supporting dermatology providers by delivering high-quality clinical assistance and accurate real-time documentation. This position enhances provider efficiency and patient care by preparing patients for examination, assisting with dermatologic procedures, and documenting all aspects of the patient encounter within the electronic medical record (EMR).The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume dermatology environment while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and patient-centered care.Clinical Medical Assistant ResponsibilitiesPrepare patients for examination by obtaining and documenting medical history, chief complaint, medications, allergies, and vital signsEscort patients to exam rooms and ensure efficient patient flowAssist providers with dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and cosmetic treatmentsPrepare and maintain exam rooms, instruments, and supplies in accordance with infection control and OSHA standardsPerform wound care and provide post-procedure instructions to patientsAdminister medications and injections as directed by provider and within scope of practiceEnsure proper specimen labeling and handling for laboratory testingMaintain inventory of medical supplies and notify leadership of shortagesScribe ResponsibilitiesAccurately document patient encounters in real-time within the EMR, including history, exam findings, procedures, and treatment plansRecord provider-dictated notes, diagnoses, and follow-up instructionsEnsure completeness and accuracy of medical records to support billing and compliancePrepare charts in advance of patient visits (pre-charting), including reviewing prior history, pathology, and labsEnter orders, prescriptions, and referrals as directed by the providerAssist with completion of documentation for timely charge capture and claim submissionPatient Care & CommunicationProvide compassionate, professional patient care at all timesEducate patients on treatment plans, medications, skincare routines, and post-procedure careRespond to patient questions and escalate clinical concerns to provider as appropriateSupport a positive patient experience from intake through dischargeCommon General DutiesMaintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulationsAdhere to OSHA and all infection control and safety protocolsFollow all clinic policies, procedures, and workflowsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environmentCommunicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and front office teamAssist with additional clinical or administrative duties as assignedDemonstrate flexibility and willingness to support clinic needsQualificationsEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferredCurrent Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferredMinimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in dermatology or a specialty practice strongly preferredPrior medical scribing experience preferredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of medical terminology and dermatologic conditions/proceduresProficiency with EMR systems and medical documentationExcellent typing speed and accuracy for real-time documentationStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to maintain professionalism and composure under pressureProfessional StandardsMaintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all timesDemonstrate integrity, accountability, and strong work ethicExhibit a team-oriented mindset with a "patient-first" approachAbility to take direction from providers and clinical leadershipMaintain punctuality and reliable attendancePhysical RequirementsProlonged periods of standing, walking, and computer useAbility to assist with procedures and handle medical instrumentsOccasional lifting of up to 25 poundsWork EnvironmentFast-paced dermatology clinic with high patient volumeExposure to clinical procedures, bodily fluids, and biohazard materialsFrequent interaction with patients, providers, and staffPreferred Dermatology ExperienceFamiliarity with skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancersExperience assisting with Mohs surgery or cosmetic dermatology proceduresKnowledge of dermatology-specific EMR workflows and documentation standardsFlexibility ClauseThis job description is intended to outline the general responsibilities of the role.
