Job description
Medical AssistantPay Rate: $19.00 / hour $2.00 per hour from 6a to 6p and 6p to 6aEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Performs routine intake procedures such as height, weight, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readingsAssists with laboratory procedures and responsible to give blood draws to patientsResponsible to give vaccines and injections to patientsAssists with office proceduresResponsibility for assisting Nurse with triage of clients and transfer of charts to appropriate providerAssists medical providers with examination and treatment of patientsRelieves other departments as indicated as time permitsPerforms other related duties as assigned or requestedDispenses oral, inhalation, and topical medications to patientsObserves patients for drug reactions and reports any problems to Charge nurseMonitors patient's vital signs, calculate medication dosages, and stocks the medication cartRecords what medications and dosages were given for the dayPerforms routine procedures under established protocols including phlebotomy and electrocardiogramsManages and maintains pharmacy stocks of medicine and medical suppliesPractices safety, environmental and infection control methodsObtains routine temperature, pulse, respiration, height and weight as well as blood pressure readings at first encounterResponsible for assisting with maintenance of medical and laboratory equipment and for assisting with quality controls on laboratory equipmentResponsible for routine laboratory procedures including but not limited to various dipsticks, urinalysis, hematocrit, glucose screening, gram stains, and other procedures as approved by health center policies and Jail StandardsMatch laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubesDispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policiesDraw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methodsDispose of blood or other bio-hazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards or policiesDraw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methodsEnter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computerEducation and Experience: High School graduate or equivalent. Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant course training with certificate of graduation and proof of Certified Medical Assistant license. On-the-job training, previous experience preferred. Personal maturity, cooperation, ability to communicate clearly.Working Conditions: Sits and walks throughout the day. May be exposed to infection and contagious diseases, and unpleasant patient or unit elements. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Subject to many interruptions. Must be able to function in a high stress environment. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions Requires dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people and other conflict situations.Physical Requirements: Continuous sitting per shift. Continuous periods of walking and standing per shift. Occasional climbing stairs per shift. Remaining awake and alert while on duty per shift. Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs periodically and lifting up to 50-100 lbs rarely. Frequently working on computers/tablets throughout the shift.
