Job description
Billing Support AssociateThe Billing Support Associate (BSA) supports assigned medical office locations for a Primary Care practice by managing medical records requests, verifying insurance eligibility, processing referrals, and assisting with patient billing issues. This role ensures patient information is accurate, compliant with HIPAA, and updated prior to appointments to support smooth clinical and billing operations. This position is located onsite, Monday-Friday at our Medical Business Office. This is a non patient facing position.Key Responsibilities:Process and fulfill medical records requests in a timely and HIPAA-compliant mannerTrack and document all medical records requests in the practice management system and tracking logsVerify patient insurance eligibility at least 48 hours prior to scheduled appointmentsContact patients to obtain updated insurance information when needed and document outreach attemptsIdentify referral requirements and obtain referrals from insurance carriers as neededSubmit referrals online or by phone and ensure all required documentation is completeConfirm referral details including provider information, diagnosis codes, and appointment datesReview patient accounts for outstanding balances and notify patients of amounts dueCollect payments or assist patients with payment options when applicableCommunicate professionally with patients, providers, insurance companies, and staffMaintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) systemRequired Skills and Qualifications:Knowledge of medical billing, insurance verification, and referralsUnderstanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy requirementsAbility to explain insurance benefits, patient balances, and payment responsibilitiesStrong customer service and communication skillsAbility to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with EMR systems and standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, email)Strong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamEducation and Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and medical recordsExperience working with EMR systems and medical terminologyAthena experience a plusBenefits offered:Medical, Dental, and Vision with company contribution401k with up to 4% matchPTO and Holiday Pay
