Job description
Medical Director, CAR-T & Cellular Therapy
We're working with an exceptional clinical research company in Los Angeles that wants to build a CAR-T and cellular therapy unit around the right physician.
They're looking for a true CAR-T cell expert, ideally with bone marrow transplant experience, who knows what it takes to run cell therapy trials safely and well. Local connections are a bonus but not essential, and relocation candidates are very welcome.
The backing is already in place. The company is a fast growing early phase oncology network with a large patient base across Southern California, and it already competes with the major academic centres for advanced trials. Sponsor relationships, regulatory infrastructure, coordinator recruitment and training, contracts, budgets and start-up are all handled by an experienced central team. You focus on the science and the patients.
The role
Build and lead the company's CAR-T and cellular therapy unit
Serve as Principal Investigator on industry sponsored cell therapy and hematologic malignancy trials, Phase I to III
Work with company leadership on feasibility, portfolio strategy and sponsor development
Take responsibility for protocol conduct, subject safety, and compliance with FDA regulations and ICH GCP
Oversee cell therapy specific safety management, including CRS and neurotoxicity, alongside eligibility and the medical management of study participants
Represent the unit with sponsors and CROs at investigator meetings, site visits and audits
Mentor sub investigators, advanced practice providers and coordinators as the team grows
Who we're looking for
MD or DO with an active, unrestricted California licence, or eligibility to obtain one
Board certified in hematology-oncology or medical oncology
Hands on experience with CAR-T or other cellular therapy trials, as Principal Investigator or Sub Investigator
Bone marrow or stem cell transplant experience preferred but not required
Strong working knowledge of GCP, FDA regulations and IRB processes
Ambitious about building something rather than maintaining it
What's on offer
Highly competitive compensation package
Relocation support for the right candidate
Full benefits, malpractice cover and CME allowance
A leadership role with direct access to senior physician leadership
A unit designed around your clinical and scientific interests
Full operational, regulatory and start-up support from an experienced central team
Real ownership of the unit's scientific direction
